Picking up where I left off

I would think of it as an aesthetic mod on a TJ. An LJ it would be more functional IMO.

Is your suggestion that I do the raised body mounts first and then the RAR (rear anti-rock)?

🤷‍♂️ - if you're going to tuck the rear I'd think you'd need to do it first because you'll likely be modifying the AR mount to make it play nicely.

I landed pretty hard on the tank last trip out coming down a slippery ledge. Hard enough it probably adjusted my spine some haha. A little stretch could solve this and the crack.

I've definitely thought about stretching the rear 5", I won't deny that.

With this mod alone, you may be right. However lots of marginal gains add up where some of us play regularly!

Which begs the question, when are you raising the rear frame? ;)

I think for some it is the visual more than anything. But the answer to your question is how many times do you drag your rear bumper off an obstacle? If you are then it might be worth you doing it. If you aren't and the visual doesn't bother you then leave it alone.
I drag my bumper probably every wheeling trip but I look at it as just that. Dragging something that’s kind of made to be dragged. I’m curious if that frame raise has ever allowed someone to go somewhere that someone without a frame raise couldn’t.

I'm curious at what point it would have been smarter to just build a rock crawler buggy and not have to worry about the frame at all

Okay, I forget they aren't street legal... unless of course you live in Arizona ;)

At what point is it smarter to stop worrying about damaging the TJ and treating it like a buggy? 🤔

Unless it looks like a jeep.

It seems to me that moving the rear of the frame up would be a lot of work for minimal gains. Maybe I am wrong, but at that point aren’t you just chasing marginal gains at best?
It depends on how often you are catching the rear on the rocks and how annoying it is.

In my case the difference became how cleanly I can come off of some obstacles. It was noticable. Raising the rear along with the tiny bumper makes the gas tank and the rear body corners take more abuse. Corner armor is much higher on the list than it used to be.

Have you ever considered putting a fuel cell in the back and getting rid of the gas tank underneath the vehicle? That would definitely make your departures quite clean ;)

I’m in the same boat with corner armor. That’s next on my list for sure. We have lots of climbs right next to a wall that you get pushed into

@Chris would you consider putting a cell in yours?
Maybe, though I figure at that point there’s no room for a spare in the tub anymore at which point it becomes a dedicated trail rig. I would have to dwell on that for a while.

You can move the gas tank and cut the frame, but you’re just going to put the rear corners of the tub in danger IMHO, then you’ll have to armor up or do the stretch and cut the corners off.
