2006 TJ with a 4.0 6 cylinder. Is the elbow out of the valve cover a PCV valve or just an elbow? The parts stores are giving me opposing answers...

Technically ... neither. The front elbow is an air inlet fitting and the rear elbow is a fixed orifice valve fitting.

"The 4.0L 6-cylinder engine is equipped with a Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system and a fixed orifice valve."

My 06 4.0 does not have the front tube (#5).

Weird. I was under the impression that all '06s were 50 state compliant and they all had the same emissions controls. Are you the original owner?

The '06 tube should run from the front elbow to the airbox instead of the air pipe. Parts stores are COMPLETELY screwed up with regards to this situation - the rear elbow has a small orifice (60 mil if I remember correctly), the front elbow will be full diameter throughout.

2nd owner. I am done with this today but will take picks tomot\rrow. I think I have it figured out.

I honestly didn't even pay attention to the pic.
Yet another instance of a factory FSM error.

I have been looking for a part number for the back elbow for hours. I need the elbow with the orifice in it. I temporarily fixed my issue by gluing some rubber tubing inside the elbow.

Part of the problem is most - not all - but "most" of the parts indexes are screwed up for '05/'06. I'm 99.9999% sure its the same part as '04 and earlier, but don't quote me on that. It took me a bit of finagling to get the right part. Hopefully, someone can chime in with the correct part number...

You’ll also need new grommets. Conflicting information if you technically need different size grommets but I’ve been running the below F/R leak free. Also if you’re replacing the grommets, don’t do it with the valve cover on, more then likely the originals are brittle and will crack into the engine.

On the bright side, the intake and exhaust gaskets have been replaced and I no longer have the high pitched whistle.

I did the valve cover gasket a while back and replaced the grommets. That is when my high idle issue started.
