Been dealing with this code for a couple months now. The fuel sending unit was replaced 3 years ago with a Delphi unit and haven’t had any issues with the fuel system until recently. The Jeep seems to start and run just fine. No hard or long cranks to start like it’s struggling to get fuel and not spitting or shuddering while driving like it’s being starved for fuel. The only indication there is a problem is gas gauge drops to empty rather often while driving which turns on the CEL. I’ve seen people just say to replace the sending unit itself bc it’s failing but if the Jeep seems to be running fine, it’s hard for me to get behind it’s a bad unit. I’ve seen where other people say to drop the tank and inspect the wiring and if I am going to do that then I might as well replace the unit. Anything else I should be looking for? TIA.

Check fuel pressure.

Monitor live ODB data and watch fuel trims. They'll be up into the double digits if the injectors are trying to compensate for low fuel pressure.

My 97 ran on 30 psi of fuel pressure. Gas mileage dropped. Fuel trims were high.

I installed a Rock Auto sourced Brute Power fuel pump assembly in mine three years ago...doing great despite all my abuse.

An OBD scanner is something I do not have. Any recommendations on one that can read live fuel pressure or is that a standard?

A $30 ODB Bluetooth dongle and the free Torque Lite app work perfectly for 90 percent of my issues. So much so I keep a dongle in every vehicle.
