I think I am having a common problem, but haven’t been successful in my searches. Please point me in the right direction if this has already been discussed.

1998 TJ Sport. I bought him new, he’s been a great little worker. I haven’t driven him in a few weeks and discovered this morning the turn signals, hazards, radio, and wipers no longer work. This has happened a couple of times before so I figured it was the common ground behind the instrument cluster. When I pulled the cluster off, the pins looked shiny and clean, but I sprayed them with electronic component cleaner anyway. The male pins I cleaned with the cleaner and Q-tips, not much can be done with the female connectors other than spray them. I waited for the cleaner to dry, put it all back together and nothing. No joy. So I check the number 17 and 14 fuses (ChatGPT suggested this), but they are okay. I’ve read of things like this happening with a worn ignition switch, but I replaced mine a couple of years ago. It is tight, not a bit of play or wobble. I’m kinda stumped, but still think the common ground thing is the culprit. Is there a way to add another ground? I couldn’t figure a way to ground the plastic cluster. Any suggestions?

If the jeep starts and runs fuse 3 in the PDC which supplies the ignition switch is good. It switches through two sets of contacts one of those is the one that supplies the radio, turn signls and wipers.

Hazards are powered from fuse 9 in the PDC and unrelated to the other things specified above.

Try turning the ignition switch back from the off to the accessory position. If the radio, turn signals and hazards work in the accessory position, the switch contacts are bad in the part that supplies those circuits in the normal run position.

That was a good call! Everything works perfectly when the ignition switch is on accessory. So I guess the switch has to come out. What I replaced a couple of years ago was the actuator pin assembly. Is that what isn’t working or something else?

Thanks so much.

Hope these schematics assist you in troubleshooting the contacts in the Ignition Switch.
