My jeep has officially caught an electrical gremlin,,,,
Here are the details:
- Installed an aftermarket radio including an amp and powered subwoofer
- Ran all separate speaker and power wires for the system
- Power lines for the amp and powered subwoofer hooked directly to the battery
- Ground wires for the amp and powered subwoofer were grounded using the right rear seat latch bolt
- Ground wire for the radio was attached to the inner dash structure
- Tapped into the body harness only for power, accy on and illumination
Upgrade worked great.
- installed LED rear lights & front/rear turn signals including the LED flasher relay on the steering column.
Combined upgrades worked great
- Installed LED's into the instrument cluster & HVAC controls
Now I have the following electrical problems:
- With no key in the ignition, turn signals function correctly and the home button on the radio now blinks the same as the turn signal (see picture showing both lit up)
- With either the running or headlights turned on, the left turn signal light comes on (see picture) and the turn signal does not function but the right turn signal functions correctly
I have tried going back to the old bulbs but issues noted above are still there. I can't for the life of me understand why changing to LED's in the cluster and HVAC controls would cause these issues. I did have to reverse the polarity on a few of the LED's to get them all to light up correctly but can't imagine that would cause these problems. And I've never known turn signals to function without the key in and turned on which makes me think there is now a short somewhere feeding that circuit.
Other then what I have noted above, nothing else has changed which just adds to the mystery. Could the MFS have coincidentally gone bad at the same time as changing to the LED's? Is there a diagnostic check to do to confirm if it is good or bad?
I am struggling big time on where to go next..
Scott
