My jeep has officially caught an electrical gremlin,,,,

Here are the details:
- Installed an aftermarket radio including an amp and powered subwoofer
- Ran all separate speaker and power wires for the system
- Power lines for the amp and powered subwoofer hooked directly to the battery
- Ground wires for the amp and powered subwoofer were grounded using the right rear seat latch bolt
- Ground wire for the radio was attached to the inner dash structure
- Tapped into the body harness only for power, accy on and illumination

Upgrade worked great.

- installed LED rear lights & front/rear turn signals including the LED flasher relay on the steering column.

Combined upgrades worked great

- Installed LED's into the instrument cluster & HVAC controls

Now I have the following electrical problems:
- With no key in the ignition, turn signals function correctly and the home button on the radio now blinks the same as the turn signal (see picture showing both lit up)
- With either the running or headlights turned on, the left turn signal light comes on (see picture) and the turn signal does not function but the right turn signal functions correctly

I have tried going back to the old bulbs but issues noted above are still there. I can't for the life of me understand why changing to LED's in the cluster and HVAC controls would cause these issues. I did have to reverse the polarity on a few of the LED's to get them all to light up correctly but can't imagine that would cause these problems. And I've never known turn signals to function without the key in and turned on which makes me think there is now a short somewhere feeding that circuit.

Other then what I have noted above, nothing else has changed which just adds to the mystery. Could the MFS have coincidentally gone bad at the same time as changing to the LED's? Is there a diagnostic check to do to confirm if it is good or bad?

I am struggling big time on where to go next..

Scott

How do the signals function properly if there is no key giving power? When you turn the vehicle off it kills the power and the blinkers quit flashing, they do not continue flashing with the keys in your pocket.

Every upgrade you just outlined, I have done also to mine.

Which LED turn signal relay did you install??
I tried a few recommended here, and they didnt work

I noticed everything in my LED setup works as it should EXCEPT there is some hazard signal bleed over into my double din radio & LED dash lights when activated. Being that I never use the hazards, I was willing to just deal with it.

I attribute that to the turn signal LED relay
I believe the Novita LM470 had the best outcome but still had the bleed over in hazard. Never bothered to look, but I bet they use the same ground

After installing LED tail light housings (turn, brake, parking, reverse), side makers, and front directionals; I had problems I could not cure.
Replaced the MFS, flasher signal relay, tested grounds, light receptacle terminals and cleaned many many electrical connections; the problem remained.
A recommendation (I was skeptical) to try a Off Road Only relay DO124, GCD-TJ0106, but it cured all the problems.
May or may not cure yours, but figured I would provide the information.
There is also a modification of snipping something inside the flasher relay that some forum members have tried with mixed results.

The key is coming out in the accessory position so the radio turn signals and wipers will still have power. Turn the key forward anotch to the off position when removing it. And get the lock barrel replaced when you can.

Turn signal in dash lighting with running lights is possibly a bad ground behind the headlamp on that side, or corrosion in the turn signal socket. Clean the ground and check the socket.

Update and issues partially resolved.

A couple other background notes:
- Jeep is an '04
- All the LED's are from the original post purchased at superbrightleds.com

I took the advice to get the LM470 relay. Relay I originally purchased was an EP26

Changing the relay solved the turn signals "working" with no key in the ignition and also stopped the back feeding to the radio (great news!!)

Regarding the left turn signal light in the cluster coming on when the lights are turned on, the only way I could solve that was to go back to the incandescent's for the front turn signals. Have no idea why the LED's up front would cause the issue but after going down the rabbit hole for a few hours trying to make the LED's work, I finally punted and put the original bulbs back in. I really wanted the LED's for the rear anyways to help with visibility so from that standpoint all good.

Really appreciate the help and suggestions.

This forum is the best!!
