New Tool Day

I've thought about that same thing , the Icon seem to be great tools . I've only used the cheaper flavor , however I won't bitch about them much .

Icon has some tools that they don't offer in Pittsburgh brand.

Both come with a lifetime warranty so either way you win.

My Dad picked this up for us today. Put it beside the 80's era stick welder.

Hey John , was the arc welder stored in a lake for the past 45 years ?

That bad boy belonged to a Trucking company i worked for, who got it from Sather's Trucking (part of the Sather's candy company) couldn't tell you how long it sat before I got it.

Got it home, blew the dust off of it, plugged it in, and it worked like a charm.

Not bad for FREE!!!!!

Honestly I think I'm going to start investing in the Icon tools also. They seem like they are upping their game with them.

I’ve picked up a few Icon hand tools, mostly pliers and some socket torx and hex bits and a couple ratchets. No big complains. I don’t really care for their grips on their pliers. To bulky and spongy feeling. I’ve never been a big fan of comfort grip type handles on tools anyway. Maybe someday I’ll remove one pair of the grips and try plasti-dipping them if I get very, very bored. 😄

Oh, and their semi deep sockets. Those are handy.

Well, I blame Scott ( @sab ), but I picked up a set of these guided tap wrenches from McMaster-Carr this week. They are designed to by used in a drill press. If you follow Scott's build thread, he used one of these on a project last week.

I mentioned to Scott that there have been many occasions in the past where these would have come in handy. 'Course, now that I actually have them that will never happen again... 🙂

Mine will be here tomorrow.

Thanks for that great feedback, Jeff! I've looked at real tool-room drill bit sharpeners in the past, but the $2,000+ prices just weren't justifiable. Heck even the Drill Doctors were hard to justify on a pure-cost basis - I got them more for convenience. It's very frustrating to dull the only bit you have in the shop and stop work. Being able to sharpen it and continue with the project is hard to put a price on.

I just went to the site, and I don't know why, but I got offered a considerably better price due to a "member discount":

Sorry - I'm not bragging about the better price; rather, I'm confused as to why they like me so much. I've only ever ordered from them once (the orange welding screens occasionally shown in my build thread), and I never bought any kind of "membership."

Anyway, thanks for helping me part with another five C-notes - it should be here on Tuesday!

These are now listed on Amazon for $469.99. I'm curious to see if they have any kind of price drop come Black Friday. I likely will buy the smaller unit, as my needs rarely exceed anything larger than 1/2". The smallest unit is currently listed at $202.47. The one with adjustable lip relief angles is listed at $245.99. Thank you to those who have pointed out this product!
