New Ford Bronco

The only time I smile on the road is on my bicycle or in my Jeep. Life therapy. The more it rides like my wife's minivan, the less I smile.

But I was raised in the country. It was 5 miles to pavement. No suspension mattered on our roads. Hang on to the wheel because it was going to be a ride.

I bet I could out drive a soccer mom in her lifted JLU or new fancy Bronco with my old front wheel drive Chevy Citation I had in high school.

We had to memorize the county before GPS.
I used to drive a Citation, too. It's one of the cars I look for every now and then, but they're exceedingly rare these days. Good snow vehicles.

Purchasing a new Bronco should be "in addition to" the beloved TJ. Shouldn't be a one or the other decision. Unless of course you're still paying off your 30 year auto warranty or something 🤣

They'll have to pry my TJ from my cold dead hands. But I always have room in my driveway for ridiculous impulses.

That's where I am.

Reliable too. Ours had 175,000 miles on it when we started driving it as teens. 210,000 when we sold it. 2.8 L V6.

Not bad for an 80s car. We had a red 2 door hatchback. So it was sporty looking for a kid's car.

Maybe Chevy will bring them back as a retro model. 🤪

A few years ago, I almost bought a 2-door sedan with 47,000 original miles on it. Can't remember what came up that interrupted the purchase, but by the time I got back to the guy, he had sold it to someone else. Oh, and remember the Citation X11?

Yeah, I would wait until this thing has been wrung out a couple of years down the road. It does have my interest.
Especially with Ford. Ford has screwed over its customers on more than one occasion, so I would wait until the issues with these things are known.

For all we know, it could be another transmission fiasco 🤣

Makes you appreciate a vehicle as old as the TJ. By this point in time we already know all of the issues with them and how to address said issues.

With new cars it’s always a crap shoot. Warranties only work sometimes. Look at the Ford Focus and Fiesta transmission issue for proof of that.

I lived through that with our Focus. Warranty didn’t do shit other than get me some half ass, lousy fixes that didn’t end up fixing anything.

My wife used to think I was crazy for buying older cars/trucks and working on them every weekend. Then she saw how her dad got screwed over on a F*rd Taurus lease. He didn't even really own the car and they were still jerking him around on warranty work, I think it was transmission issues. Then when he went to turn it in they tried to get him to pay for "diminished value".

That and our neighbors having a new BMW in the driveway every other week and then bitching about how it was in the shop, lol.

Took a few years but she finally realized I enjoy working on older cars, and we never got stranded. And saved a bunch of money.

1. The Jeep Brand is the best selling thing that Fiat Chrysler has going for them.
2. Most of those Jeep vehicles do not sell to serious off-road enthusiasts.
3. Most people buy those vehicles for the Jeep image.
4. Hell... Most people never even take the tops or door off their Wranglers
5. Ford knows this and wants in on the action.
6. The new Bronco family is not designed to beat the Rubicon in an off-road competition.
7. Ford is not trying to sell 100 vehicles to serious off road enthusiasts.
8. Ford wants to sell 100's of thousands of vehicles to wannabe off-road enthusiasts who like the idea of riding around in a "serious" off-road vehicle while going to baby showers and to the grocery store.
9. Ford knows all of this...
10. Hence the Bronco "brand."

All that said, I'm still anticipating the reveal. I think it will be neat to see it. I won't buy it new. I don't like throwing away money on depreciation. I might buy one used in about 5-10 years after some soccer mom has taken the depreciation hit.

Whelp... I just watched the video and it looks pretty impressive.

300 hp/400ftlbs
optional 35" tires
Locking front and read differentials
Door storage onboard
Mirrors on the A pillars not on the doors

The specs go on and on...

All of the Bronco family will be 4x4.
Even the little Bronco Sport can make a river crossing up to 23.5" deep

12 inch display, different driving modes to choose from using your pick a mode dial, keyless start.

Any word on price? Locking front and rear axles makes it a Rubicon, so some of the options aren't that new if the cost is in the same range or higher.
