The only experience I have with straight-cut gears is from my racing days. The distinctive whine of F1 cars is from the straight-cut sequential gear boxes used to keep the weight down. Imagine driving for two hours to a destination with that noise!That was my first thought. Years ago a friend of mine had a car with straight cut gears in his transmission, and the gear whine was very prominent. Short trips, it was exciting, but I imagine any time in the car would drive you crazy.
