I'd mentioned in another thread that I daily drive (in the summer at least) a '73 Chevy K10 Cheyenne pickup truck. Rather than cluttering up that thread, there was enough interest that I decided why not just create a thread about my beloved truck.

This truck isn't new, I've had it for a while. I've just never posted about it because this is a TJ forum of course. I didn't do most of the work to it either. I bought it from a guy who built it in California.

It's a rust free truck and it's in very good shape. It's by no means a concourse quality car, but it's a very fine example of a driver car (which is what I wanted). In addition, it's got the Cheyenne trim with marina blue / white two-tone exterior and a blue interior. This is my favorite model and color combination ever offered on these trucks.

Here's a list of what's been done to it:

Blueprint 396 Stroker Crate V8 Engine
• Holley Sniper Electronic Fuel Injection with Hyperspark Ignition
• 700R4 Transmission
• 12-Bolt Rear with 4.10 Gears and Posi-Traction
• Hedman Headers with 3-Inch Dual Exhaust
• Power Front Disc Brakes
• 4-Inch Lift Kit
• 15-Inch Wheels
• 33x12.50R15 Tires
• Dual Exhaust
• Factory Air Conditioning
• Tilt Steering Wheel
• Alpine Bluetooth Sound System with Door Speakers and Hidden Subwoofer

The vehicle is clean as can be on the underside and has been very well kept. I only drive it in the dry weather so it doesn't have a chance to rust.

The dyno sheets show it putting out 500hp and 500tq at the crank so she really gets up and moves as you can imagine. With the long tube headers and dual exhaust it really sounds great too.

I don't have too many plans for it. The only immediate things I plan to do are get the Holley RetroBright LED headlights, some custom gauges from Classic Instruments, and some rear disc brakes. Aside from that there isn't much to do to it which is why I bought it to begin with. The previous owner built it exactly the way I would have.

Anyways, I've always had a thing for square body Chevys so I figured I'd make this thread for those who might be interested.

Very Cool, Chris! Thank you for sharing.

I had a 1973 Chevy Cheyenne Super, K20, with a manual transmission and a 400 small block. Sure miss that truck. Factory 33 x12.50R16.5's. Got the same 8 mpg no matter what you were doing.

I don’t blame you, these are great trucks in every way. Easy to work on, easy on the eyes, and fun to drive. They just don’t make trucks like this anymore.

I’d really like to get a Suburban of the same generation for the wife.

@Chris it may be a jeep forum, but for the most part we are all gear heads.

I've always been a Ford guy, but that generation of Chevys are good with me.

You know, I honestly love both Chevy and Ford. They both make cars and trucks that I like from various generations.

Beautiful square body, and I love the color combo. They are such a timeless design. A matching suburban would be 👌

One of my friends has an either 85 or 86 K10 he got from down south. It's rust free but needs some engine work (305 V8), hopefully we get to that project soon as it would be a sweet driver. Hoping to do a 350 swap or maybe 5.3 LS swap.

Had a 1980 3/4t 4x4
454 ~ 4sp
It developed a taste
for 5.0L Mustangs

Holy Jesus!

Round eye squares are the best. The 73/74 grill is the pinnacle of all square body grills. Your truck looks beautiful! Such an awesome color combo.

I had a 73 K10 that I sold a few years ago. Swapped in a 2005 5.3, kept the TH400 and NP205 on it. Was offered good money for it and let it go. I've been itching to build another. This thread is gonna be a bad influence on me lol

You've been holding out on us, Chris! That's very nice - it should have showed up on the Cool Car Pics thread long ago...

Short bed square body on 33's. Very .

The 79 and newer bed is a subtle touch. Looking forward to the new photos to see some more !

Did someone make a custom externally balanced flywheel for this truck ? Factory 400 SBC were only with automatic transmissions .
A 400 SBC is a torque beast.

You caught that? It is subtle but cool, huh?

The past two days we've been getting storms (praise God for the rain) so I haven't had an opportunity to take it out yet and get some good photos. We've got another storm rolling in as I type this and supposedly another one coming in tomorrow too!

Question for you folks:

I'm really wanting to swap a manual transmission in this thing. I suspect since it's a column mount shifter I'd have to cut a hole in the floor as well as get a clutch pedal and a few other things. I need to figure out what I need and price it out to see if it's worth it or not.

Let me ask you this though, if I did do a manual swap, what transmission would you install?

I put a brand new nv4500 with all the upgrades in my 70 k20 when it got an LS swap. Back then it was under 3000$.

Now I'd probably think about the tremec tr-4050.

You also need to consider the best way to adapt a transfer case to it. I found a very rare round pattern np205 case and put 1 ton guts in it. So I didn't need any advance adapter parts.

This project could easily go over 5000$

Yep, I'm thinking it could easily be over 5k as well. Maybe I could recoup some cost with the sale of the 700R4 that's in there.

Realistically there's nothing wrong with it, I'm just really jonesing for a manual swap in this thing. I really enjoy driving manual transmissions.
