Utah Moab in May 2025

You can make any of them harder than they need to be.

Cliffhanger - I think it gets most of the rating due to the cliffhanger obstacle being on the cliff, more of a fear factor. It's not that bad, I've never heard of anyone actually going over the cliff so probability of that is near zero, there's more room than pictures show and you'd have to be pretty reckless or careless to have it come into play. There are a handful of climbs at most that could need a bit of attention but nothing to worry about with this group. The first time I ran Cliffhanger I did it solo and expected to see others out on it, didn't see another sole that day, do not recommend as I found out there are no winch points. Seemed easier the next time I did it but that's pretty common for Moab obstacles.

Other than Pritchett, I don't consider any of the trails particularly difficult for a locked TJ in Moab. There are no alternate lines on Pritchett but for the most part these other trails have optional lines and optional obstacles. And once one jeep is up we have a winch point if needed and it's not a big deal if we need to use them. Staying safe and keeping your jeep in good running condition is more important than taking a risk that you're not comfortable with.

Is Behind the Rocks a better match for first trail?

I don't see an @ for Trent or might reach out.

Behind the Rocks is a more difficult trail. If you’re wanting a good first trail you want Fins-N-Things. It’s short, close to town, and doable. After that you know how your rig will respond on steep slick rock and you gain confidence for harder trails.

First trail ever, or just in Moab? The gatekeeper opening obstacle on Behind the Rocks is not a gimme, and many have rolled there. Good spotting will get you up.

The two gnarliest obstacles, High Dive and White Knuckle, both have bypasses.

If you get into Moab on Friday, you can go out with me Saturday to get a feel for Moab trails.

I’ll be around that day too. Planning to go to Elephant Hill to chill, but let me know if you guys are going out. I might tag along if Elephant Hill falls through for some reason. It is a bit of a drive.

I did watch one YoutTube video of CH. Guy in a JKU 2" lift on 38s who bottomed out coming up (I guess he was going for the LCG build:unsure:).
I'm guessing I have more clearance than he.
Unless I show up earlier than Saturday CH would be my first ever trail in Moab (or any significant rocks for that matter). Has to have been thousands of folks survive that trip.. I can drive but the stick will be interesting - just a matter of choosing the right gear from the bottom of an obstacle - and maybe some hand throttle action or at least remembering the clutch doesn't need to go all the way to the floor to change gears. 😅. Or I'll find the guy with NSG370/35s/5.13 and just follow him and get pointers on the radidio.
Sure as shit ain't sitting around in a pickup camper or shopping for "I did Moab" t-shirts. Or trying to pick up chicks at the Social Security office🤩

"Lonely".

That's a lot of imogis.

It can be intimidating but you'll be fine. Your rig looks well suited for the environment and its not your 1st time wheeling, right? The stick vs auto thing is a bit over blown. Auto is smoother but with 5.13 gears and a rubi T-case, your crawl ratio will help a lot. Also, and I can't emphasize this enough, figure out who the good spotters are are and pay attention to them.

How come you aren't in the list for Cliffhanger?

They say one of the bypasses is an "early out". Would have to play that by seat of the pants, wet or dry 😆.

Already throwing jabs at me. Ouch!!! 🤣
