Looks like buy now and use it on arrival, so specified dates at purchase (unlike non-resident fishing, etc.).A little info for those who will be making their first trip to Moab, and a reminder for those who have been before...
To enter the Sand Flats Recreation Area (this is where Fins & Things and Hell's Revenge trails are located) there is a $10 fee per vehicle required which gets you a 7 day (consecutive) pass. This can be purchased online or at the entrance gate.
See how gutsy I'm feeling, so good to know it's a moment of decision payment. There is a $5 per vehicle fee (cash only) to run Pritchett Canyon trail. This is paid at the trail head with an honor system drop box.
There are no fees for any of the other trails that we will be running.
Good catch, I forgot that a few guys might be doing Elephant Hill. When I did it a few years ago, the permit was free, but the recreation.gov site charged $1 to reserve the free permit.
Oh, shit!
Appears to be fully BOOKED the entire month of May.
This is how it goes these days folks.
I'm old enuf to remember when things weren't this way. It's all been discovered (except my secret brookie creek).
So, who wants to plan an alternative to Elephant hill & Pritchett. I've never been to Moab so no suggestions from me.

Pritchette is completely different than Elephant Hill. Pritchett you stuff $5 into a little yellow envelope at the start of the trail. No limits, and no reservation required.
By the way - there is no alternative to Pritchett...![]()
I didn't mention the exorbitant fees the yellow Jeep charges to drag broken Jeeps off the trail.

So do you not need a parks pass for Elephant Hill? Even though it's in the park? I know you need the permit. Still not decided what I'm doing - I'm torn on how to spend my time, will probably be tempted to do some climbing after at Indian Creek. Anyone on the forum into crack climbing?
You can only book the permit the day before.
Oh, maybe the website says that and I overlooked it.
