So I am thinking about getting the Klein wheeled two draw Modbox and the Milwaukee 4 drawer packout and combine them with an adapter.

My goal is to make working on vehicles a bit easier. I don't have a garage just a gravel driveway. All my tools are in the basement. Every time I work on vehicles I have to haul everything up from the basement. Hoping this setup will help stream line the process. Modbox seems to have decent size wheels which will help pulling it around the lawn and driveway.

My thinking is to use the 4 drawer packout for sockets and wrenches. Either with either foam cutouts or socket holders.

Klein Modbox will be used hold other hand tools, impact driver etc....

Anyone done this yet? Happy with the set up. Suggestions for alternative methods?

A few things as a long time PackOut user for work...

First, stick with a platform, rather than mix the stack. If ModBox has a rolling drawer base, then absolutely use that with a ModBox drawer stack.

Milwaukee announced a rolling drawer base to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2025. I will buy it the moment I can because I do not like having to unstack everything above to get into the rolling base.

Rigid has a rolling drawer base and drawer stacks. And it costs less than PackOut does.

Second, my observations of PackOut and ModBox at work is that overall PackOut is the better quality product. ModBox has an odd flexy mushy feeling that bothers me. And the locking plates between layers is way too fussy to line up and lock together. My only preference to ModBox is that it has larger wheels which will make it easier to drag up stairs and across rough ground.

Third, I have a difficult time recommending these modular tool stacking cases for home use because they tend to be heavy, bulky and space inefficient the way most set them up. I have done a lot of work on my Jeep and the vast majority of the tools I have needed to do most of that work is contained in two small canvas bags. I accomplished this by not carrying every single wrench and socket I own in those bags. If it fits the Jeep, it goes into the two bags. The rest of the less common tools stay put away until I need them.

......

Thanks for the insight. I heard mention on reddit about the release of a packout drawer. Would prefer to keep everything under one system.

I have been leaning towards the Packout style set up for tools due to being the family handyman / mechanic. I am often loading up the 4runner to work on stuff at my mom's or sister's house, to work on their vehicles, my in-laws home, or the family camp. Just getting tired of constantly having to rearrange my equipment bag for the next project / whatever. I will take another look at my use case though while keeping what you said in mind.
