Loud boom and new banging

I assume you're talking about the coil, which would not have any effect on the plug. Compare the length of the plug to one of the olds ones.

Plugs are same size. The rubber slip on coil looks like maybe I didn't line up straight.

cant figure out why that would smash the strap to the electrode though. but get a new plug or temporarily install a old one and see if it runs better. then get a new plug

BTW that looks like a pretty hot plug. Is it the stock heat range?

Just realized what you're saying. Yup... the part that screws in is longer.

Think I got it guys. Thank you! Looks like I need a new coil and another set of plugs. Hopefully thats it

That is a coil boot that is broken. Before doing anything else, check the threads in the head. If the plug made contact with the piston due to being too long and was forced out, you might have bigger problems.

It could simply close up the ground strap, push the plug and threads out of the head or knock a hold in the piston, and anything in between.

Thanks I didn't realize it could knock a hole in the piston. Threads in head I was aware that was a big problem with the V10s. Damn good idea to check those plugs before installing.

thats exactly why I told him to look at the part number on that plug ! if it's marked wrong they are going to owe him a new engine. if it's the wrong number not a xp985 it's on him for not checking it before he installed it....

Not sure which piston it was, but if you can see into the hole where the plug used to live, take a peak with a flashlight and see if you can see what the top of the piston looks like. That and the threads in the head.

And if that plug was too long, the rest might be too. Hopefully all it did was smash the plug and spit it out.

even the one that blew out ? that was too long ! if so I suggest taking it to a shop and at least getting that cylinder boroscoped to see how bad of hit that piston took and how bad it's damaged, so if necessary you can file a claim with autolite ....DO NOT THROW THAT PLUG AWAY !!!!!!
