LJ is about to get the flux offroad aluminum treatment! Trying to plan a weekend to get this corner armor and tailgate skin on.

Also need opinions from the peanut gallery.

Spare tire delete or mount the spare. I like both and justify reasons for both. I run the morryde kit now and could delete that reinforcement plate on the tailgate after mounting this skin.

I would run both reinforcements if keeping the tire. Bunch of bent tailgates at Moab this year.

On that thought,if i was driving further away from my spare than I want to walk i would keep it on the jeep!

That is why I have been thinking about deleting it. That and my tailgate is developing a stress crack near the latch.

Running both would require me to add the corner plate the morryde comes with so the it all lines up.

I will just carry the spare inside if going far, or set it up in my truck so someone can bring it to me. You can drive pretty far on a flat.

I'm a big fan of the look and functionality of having the spare on the back of a TJ. FWIW

I do understand why folks remove it - especially depending on your type of off-roading and general use of the TJ.

BTW — See you got yourself a sticker there! It's a good one from @Fluxor! Got one myself recently delivered with an upcoming upgrade.

I like the look of a tj with the spare too. I may just end up pulling the spare for days where I think it would be an issue.

My first @Fluxor sticker but not my first fluxor aluminum goodness. Congrats on your new aluminum parts! He makes some great stuff!

Same - early adopter with more to go on than my recent buy. The sticker in my latest was a nice bonus. (Keeping it cagey on what I bought until I get my build update — and actually get the parts going on).

Not to make you jealous - but also got me a koozie with my sticker on my latest... 🫢 @Fluxor is upping his game (and learn from 'other' aluminum armor vendors) to give the customers what they want... free merch!

I removed my spare since my hinges are worn and it sags too much to close with the weight on it. That was only temporary but I think I’ll stay removed from at least the tailgate. I will say with it removed the jeep feels more balanced front to back, more nimble with weight, better view out the back, nothing to hang up and rip my tailgate like many have done these past 2 weeks, using my hitch is better since I don’t need an extension to get past the spare, and getting access to the back for tools or groceries is much easier.
It’s still my daily right now but I only work 15 min away from home so a plug kit with my arb compressor or a phone call to my wife to bring my spare is very easy to do and any big off-roading where I worry about a sidewalk rip id like to have a mount for the “bed” because i don’t want to be dragging 4 people with the back seat in anyways and if its a far trip I’d like to trailer it just to have some extra security if something broke I am not totally stuck.

New grill and black magic power steering cooler mounted! @mrblaine makes some great, well thought out products and this cooler and mount setup is fits so well.

Installed @sunnysideup_lj hood latch slider as well.

This jeep is accumulating a lot forum member designs.

Also cleaned up some wiring from the jk signals and back to stock style signals.

Still need to finish running hoses and bleeding the power steering.

Next is get this AC checked for leaks and swap to the soft top. Then corner armor and tailgate amor.

Wheeling tripped planned for September but will see what I can get in over the summer.

We just need to have a chat with the butthead that forgot to send you a fitting.

Rode around in the rain at Rausch Creek yesterday. Jeep did great but I didn’t get any pictures.

Observations:

  • Dented the muffler a decent amount but it still muffles. Beat and scraped the undercarriage on rocks.
  • Savvy skid groan and creaked a bit for the first few trails but seem to settle in as they day went
  • Ran with spare in the back vs the tailgate and it was much nicer. Hauling kids on trips though may limit this ability.
  • Wheels have scratches now but they worked well with the Baja bosses.
  • Selectable lockers are awesome, always had auto lockers so I feel so fancy.
No pics, it was rainy and our small group just kept moving.
