The lights for my instrument cluster, ac controls, and shifter all went out. Replaced fuses, checked grounds, replaced multifunction switch and connector. Only work that’s been done is an aftermarket head unit a couple years ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated

What model year is your TJ?

In early TJs fuse 1 is for marker lights and cluster/dash lights, if just cluster/dash lights, fuse 12 is for the dimmable lamp circuit.

In later years fuse 1 is the same, but dimmable lamps are controlled by the cluster, and if dimmable lamps only are out the failure of a circuit board track in the cluster is the normal cause. There is a repair or a work around if this is the case.

Since the only work done recently was the installation of an aftermarket head unit, it's possible that the wiring for the head unit is somehow interfering with the lighting circuits. It's not uncommon for aftermarket audio systems to cause electrical issues if the wiring is not properly insulated or connected.

Double-check the wiring connections around the head unit installation. Specifically, look for any loose wires or misconnected grounds that could be affecting the instrument cluster and other lights. Ensure the wiring is intact and not causing a short or drawing power from the wrong source.

Confirm that the ground wire for the head unit is properly connected to a clean, secure grounding point and not tied into any sensitive circuits.

Welcome

Are you still working on this?

sorry for late response. Ended up having to replace the cluster and everything was fine after that. Thank you!
