Colorado Krew Hangout

The big reason to do this is to fit a shock that can be tuned. The shock is also going to be longer because that contributes to the tune, and more suspension travel is beneficial in the rocks, and the lower mount can be raised.

The wider shock stance is a bit of a byproduct of the process that also improves the tuned shock's ability to control movement.

Okay I had the purpose vs side effects backwards.
You are entering into the realm of building specifically for shocks and making the shocks work. The form of the mounts are determined by the function of the shocks.

If you end up liking the results, then you run the risk of wanting more of it because of how transformative the shocks are to the fundamental core of how the Jeep behaves and performs. Everything changes if you go down this road.

Yeah between riding in Matt's, Ben's new Blaine build, and Jeff's this year, I'm realizing mine rides like absolute dog water. I know Jeff's is different with the COs but they all have shocks that are significantly less crappy than mine

I was pretty happy to learn that the tuning is more in the realm of affordability than I thought, and doesn't need to be done all at the same time. Much more motivated to do it after that

Mine would ride the about same if it were on 12" coilovers with the same tune and reservoirs. Coilovers are just shocks with springs wrapped around them. The only functional difference is that the ride height can be more precisely adjusted.

Okay so maybe not all that different. Yeah, it is good to ride in other people's rigs I'm realizing, helps you see what you're missing out on. I never thought much of it, it never necessarily bothered me, but now I know how bad it is relatively.

Comparison is the thief of joy 😅

Motivating to an extent... I know I cant just go build a Jeff rig 🤣 but now I can see I can make it alot nicer with some better shocks. And here I started considering this just cos I'm too cheap to buy shocks twice, for once it's paying off!

35s!!! Why do you think you can't do holy cross. You got this

I’ve wheeled URE in NC and mud trails in AK, Northen territories of UT, and lite muddy trails in Germany, the walls and climbs out here are a bit intimidating to a mostly mud runner.

I’ve been trying to source an 8274 so at least i can drag my own ass up the climbs 😂

switching to a swayloc if funds allow this winter.

I dont know much about the 8274, but after this last weekend, I'd suggest looking for a winch with a lot of speed. My superwinch is agonizingly slow.

If you care about controlling weight and physical bulk, every little bit adds up

i’ve built as light weight as i could.

same thing goes with the long distance runners running with weight vest. all it does is destroy ankles. but do LTs ever listen to old guys,

just need find some time to install the aluminum body armor.

You're capable of Holy Cross of you fixed your anti-rock. We'll drag you over shit if need be 😂

Actually, I think HC is overrated for toughness. It gets it's high rating because of Cleveland Rock which is at the end of the trail and completely optional. It's a fun trail though.

should be done and reinstalled today

would that still be valid if you run synthetic line, that’s what my plan was,

Yes, it’s still big and bulky even with synthetic line. It is because you would be comparing it to a newer, less bulky winch also running synthetic line.

I don’t think anything is as fast as an 8274, but quality winches like the good warn stuff is pretty close - and certainly fast enough.

I believe the closest you can get is a Zeon platinum but the 8274 is considerably faster.
