Colorado Krew Hangout

My rear lube locker is still leak free. My front had a horrible leak, like 1/4 quart over a couple months

Ugh, I hope mine don't have that issue. I hate leaks. I'm not sure what I did wrong with the RTV, maybe I didn't let it set long enough before installing or cure enough before filling. I used the grey gear oil specific Permatex.

Permatex The Right Stuff in the can is my new favorite stuff. I've swapped to lube lockers though. Hopefully I have better luck with them.

Gulches were okay, we didn't get much wheeling in. I guess I should say gulch.

Met up with an XJ buddy and his other XJ buddy. Well, I guess this guy had done an SYE this week and hadn't bothered to find out if he could actually shift into 4wd before getting on the trail. So we spent a lot of the day winching him up hills, yay!

Damn, now I don't feel too bad about missing out on all that fun!

Shifting into 4lo from underneath is my signature fix in Moab, figured this would be the same! But he must've really fucked something up lol felt like the shifter fork was jammed or something.

He did manage to move it one click from 2HI and he went into nuetral... prettyyyy sure that should've been 4hi! I was surprised it even went back into 2wd at that point lol

I would tell you that you need to do a better job of screening who you let wheel with you, but that advice would have probably kept you from letting me join you for floatie-fest last spring.

Yeah, it's kinda a hard position to be in.

One on hand, I just wanna get out and wheel and not fix other people's shit.

On the other hand, I dont want to be an elitist jerk that excludes people on how much disposable income they have. Some people do dumb shit, but alot of the time they only have so much money to throw at it.

I just hope I can try to talk about why quality parts matter and try to have a good time anyways. I'd rather get out and work on something than sit in the jeep and wait for him to winch himself at the end of the day

What are your thoughts on using a JK Dana 30 instead of trying to find a high pinion XJ Dana 30?

This is for our ZJ with very tired stock low pinion Dana 30 with cracked PS UCA mount. It is getting harder to find a nice HP Dana 30 and the HP JK Dana 30 are dirt cheap (and sometimes free) in stock form. The only sad thing is if I go to JK axle I won't be able to use the nice Currie steering with upgraded aluminum tie rod and the track bar. JK axle would allow me to use spare Teraflex big brake rotors with stock JK calipers and spare TF high steer knuckles. I would just need to make a modified raised track bar and bracket and new custom draglink. I already have the parts necessary to modify the crappy Rough Country front radius arms and I would just need to alter the lower spring perches and endlink brackets. The ZJ is already using 5x5 beadlocks on 35s with 4.5"-5x5 wheel adapters. JK Dana 44 front axle are just too expensive now; Covid messed up the pricing on those axles.

What's the best offroad parts store in the Denver area? I'd like to possibly look at some bumpers and other crap like that in person before I make a final decision. And just would like to have that resource.

You won't find one with a good stock of TJ parts like bumpers. Your best bet is to do some trail runs with people and see what they run (and ask what they used to run).

How is the resale market in Denver? I've got an LoD rear bumper with a tire carrier thinking of parting ways with

I might be in the market for a rear bumper soon if it's got a hitch reciever. Still trying to figure out what I'm gonna prioritize this summer, but definitely let me know if you decide to sell it.

Anyone else having water issues? Since apparently CO isn't supposed to rain?

Found out one side of the service line is grounding out. So we only have 110 in the house.

Sure beats all the co workers with flooded basements.

It's been a few years since I can remember getting rain like this. I mean there there was all the flooding back in 2013 and then those big storms in 2021. But not a May like this. Sounds like this is what the whole summer is gonna be like. We definitely need it. But I just want to get some fishing in before runoff
