My TJ came with JK wheels with 31.5" tires (265R70/17). I pulled one off today to check what adapters/spacers were used as I thought the tires poked a bit more than I would like.
They are 1-1/4", I was kinda hoping they were thicker so I could "fix" the "problem".
I think I read that these are the proper thickness to compensate for the difference in offset?
Has anyone narrowed their TJ by changing the axles and rotors/drums to 5x5's ?

You won't get any narrower by converting the bolt pattern. The axles are the size they will be and the only way to convert the front is to go to manual hubs.

Why not just find a set of TJ wheels and tires on marketplace. You could probably find someone will to trade for a set of JK wheels with adapters. Factory wheels are pretty much as narrow as you can make a TJ.

True, but then the wheels wouldn't fit anyway with the wrong backspace. And again, the only way to change pattern in the front is hub kits and they can only be had in 5x4.5 (TJ bolt pattern) or 5x5.5 (JL and many others). Nothing exists for 5x5. Either way, all far more expensive than buying the proper wheels if you don't want the spacers.

Or you could get wider flares if that's the concern.

If they were thicker, the wheels would stick out even more. Get some TJ wheels and new tires or wider flares and keep the wheels you have.

Since my adapters are 1/2-20 and not the proper M14-1.5 for these wheels I ordered up some bulged acorn 21mm ones, up from the stock 19mm. I think I saw that mentioned here somewhere but can't find it now? The wheel I pulled looked a bit rough on the lug holes :( .
