Jeep got a booboo, and now insurance aggravation

I don't know if it is as much them being clueless, or no sense of urgency time-wise since they are not on the hook for the rental. As far as the jeep dealership service department, to not be able to diagnose a clear steering issue is inexcusable. At one point they actually said something to the effect of "we don't want to just throw parts at it". Which is precisely what they have been doing.
Can you take it to a different dealer at this point?
State Farm used to be FABULOUS. I was a customer for 39 fucking years. No more...
I am hoping to get it and take to The Jeep Guy in Lindon. That's where I had planned to have the regear done.
I should have pulled it back the first week when they denied the original mechanic's request to do a tear down diagnosis to figure out the issue with the steering.
If I could at least get assurance that State Farm would cover the rental if/when AmFam ultimately denies it I would be fine with them taking as long as they like, as I am tooling around in a wrangler as rental.
I've never worked for a dealership, so I have no idea if I should be surprised that they've even taken a TJ in for some nonregular diagnostics for a problem that didn't have a recall or service bullitin but I am kinda surprised. I'm also wondering how they could even find a steering column.

They had already replaced the steering box, steering pump, intermediate shaft, and then I finally got a text last night that they finally got the column replaced and they feel that last one fixed the binding. They said they were going to check this morning when it is cold to see if the issue is solved completely.
We'll see.
I have no idea where they sourced the replacement column from, they assured me it was OEM. State Farm is the one that tossed the jeep at the local dealership likely thinking them the most qualified to work on a jeep. But yeah, if a vehicle cannot be hooked up to a computer to tell them what an issue is dealerships are frigging clueless.

The "new" one the dealership installed is anything but, and has about 1.5" of play before pitman moves. Squirrely AF on the highway.

Lares are $30 less on rockauto and you could find a 5% off code for another saving.
I bought a Lares for my 97. The steering was really tight for two or three weeks before I considered it acceptable. That's roughly 500 miles of driving for me.
I don't know if that would be the same for the Mercedes boxes compared to my Saginaw.

Just saw that on rockauto. Will have to look for a discount code, but not seeing anything on the cart page as to where you'd even input one.
