How the hell do I get this thing in. I think maybe I stripped out the nut or whatever as seen in the photo. It is kind of useless if it pulls out of the door when using it. To anyone who wants to replace their exterior door handles. DONT DO IT. Just paint them and call it a day. It was not simple, it was all rusted, and I ended up needing new clips and such as well.

The hole you picture is in the door card. It's pass through.

There is a speed nut clipped to the inside of the door. Screw needs to go through the hole in the door card, through the pull handle and screws into the speed.

Disassembling the door, whether half or full, isn't a horrible experience. First timers will often get stuck with reconnecting the rods.. pictures are your friend.

Meaning the metal structure in the middle of the door? The panel is lined up with new clips and screws. That panel is nowhere near the handle. Not sure what I did wrong lol

It would help to see pictures of your door.

Speed nuts.. part #13.
Clip onto the stamped steel support screwed to the door.. part #15
Two trim screw go through the door skin, through the ends of the handle and into the speed nut.

I made a similar tool from the metal side strip from a windshield wiper refill insert bent to 90 degrees. Over the years I’ve read folks use a piece of cloth to catch the end of the clip to pull it off. Whatever works for you.
