How would you fix stripped taillight mount hole? Rivnut or just a bigger bolt?

Think about how they would do the installs at the factory. It would be very odd for them to hand a separate gasket to the worker, have him stick that over the holes on the tub and then attach the tail light. Far easier and faster would be to have the gasket already applied and stuck to the housing so it winds up in the correct spot as fast and accurately as possible. Not saying I know they did it that way, but all the gaskets I've seen stuck to tail lights sure point that way.

I can confirm that brand new OEM Mopar tail lights come with the gaskets on them. That is definitely the design intent. Odd that his would have been stuck to the tub...probably previous owner tomfoolery.

Bear with me on this but depending on the amount of stripping that has occurred why not a light brush of JB weld in there let it set and run that self tapping screw back through. Should get you a good bite to tighten up on. The amount of times you are likely to get in there is minimal and should do the trick.

Yeah I dunno. My OEM tails are still in my storage unit, and when I pulled them off the tub the gaskets were not attached to either. I'm just going to go with adhesive failure after 26 years. They definitely didn't pull them when they repainted it the first time!

The gasket typically sticks to the back of the tail light housing.

Was I supposed to reuse it when installed the BMB billet lights?

It's long gone.. I'd have to make a new gasket.

If it was supposed to have and use a gasket, it would have been included. That doesn't mean you can't use one though. I just don't know why you want a gap between the housing and the tub.

Agree 100%.

I had to dimple the thru holes so the billet housing sat flush. The OP was a hack in many regards.

There was a nice little feller on FB sniveling about the Savvy tail lights telling everyone not to use them because they are junk. He based his assertion on the fact that every one he had ever touched was wobbly on the tub. I explained that has zero to do with the lights. It is merely an artifact from the original screws being over tightened and dimpled outward which raised the housing off of the body and allow it to present the condition of being "wobbly". 30 seconds with a hammer to dimple the raised areas the other direction would handily solve the problem.

Nope, the lights suck, don't buy them.

When I get back to the States I'll post the template to cut a new one. I drew one up in FreeCAD. Used 1/8" thick closed cell foam.

You're correct. Tool me about 30 seconds to dimple the mangled holes back in.
About as far from junk as I can figure.
