on 02-03 type fuel pumps w/aluminum canister.... how deep does it sit? Once inch from bottom... 1/2" millimeters.. ??

thanks in advance

It's spring loaded on my 97...so it pretty much hits the bottom.

twas expecting spring loaded when I pulled mine out... (02 I think.... it barely was though.. Thanks for reminder. i got to figure out that. grrrr. Guess that means if I stick with Pex as pickup tube then need to make it a slip tube of some kind so it can push up (like if tank gets whacked) it does not break things or try to push the fuel pump out top of the tank... yikes... that just complicated the shiat out of things. a slip ability.... yet still air tight. grrrrrr

There is three small feet w/rubber pads on bottom of aluminum housing so if on bottom; on those plugs,.... would put it maybe the bottom face of cannister 1/2" off bottom.

Am making my own fuel pick up (has no pump, this is now a diesel) and figuring out tube length and screen fabrication etc.

was thinking on using PEX for fuel pick up. that wont work with it needing to flex. guess its back to regular fuel line.... like originally was thinking.

OEM is spring loaded to accommodate the mythical 15 gallon tank depth.

Nothing says you couldn't make your own pump hanger...either 3d print it or make it out of aluminum. Get the pickup as low as you like.

some day. right now am limited to rudimentory tools. Dont even have a garage.. never have in my 62yrs. Am outside under a tarp.

After jeep running (to be daily driver) will be set up a garage. 24x32 ex military mechanics tent. Should be able to fit my military camper project truck inside it too

honestly I dont think so. Numerous have reported to find pump length no different between 15 and 19gal ones. IMHO it is more likely for protecting pump if tank gets mushed. Once skid is straightened tank will pop back into shape when its hot

Not really. The 15 gallon tank is/was done by extending the filler tube deeper into the tank so it won't fill past the 15 gallon limit. The physical outside dimensions are the same.

As for the depth of the pump, it is common to have to set the sides of an empty tank on 2 x 4 pieces so the sump is not in contact with the ground. That lets the middle of the tank sag far enough to get the pump lock ring started with the pump fully compressed to its shortest height.
