This is my first ever Jeep and it has tires that I believe to be very old, although I don't know how to tell. They have been plugged several times by previous owners and by myself. There is also some cracking visible.
The size is 31x10.50 r15 which is completely foreign to me (I am used to metric)The vehicle is amazing on forestry roads, paved roads, not so much, but that may be normal for the vehicle, I never driven another Jeep.
What should I replace the them with? Is there something that handles a bit better on paved road without giving up to much on the forestry roads?

Those are Mud-Terrain (knobby) tires, more for offroad than street. BFG also makes All-Terrain (A/T) tires similar to those with a less aggressive tread, but still kind of dual purpose.

The 31x10.50R15 is straightforward to understand: 31" (outside diameter), 10.5" wide, on 15" wheels. There are many metric-to-flotation converters available on the Internet, so you can compare them to metric tires.

I'm having trouble spotting the date code on your tires, but it should be on there somewhere. Google "tire date code".

You should run those at about 28 PSI. Tire shops will almost always put too much pressure in them, and it will make a difference in how they drive.

Thanks for the feedback @OldBuzzard!
Google says the equivalent in metric is 265/75R15
Not a lot of selection near me it appears, but one tire shop offer Toyo Open Country® A/T III in that size. Would that be considered well suited and durable?

That would be a good choice, yes!
