Hey y'all from Alabama!

The front & rear clutches are also different thickness....but I can never remember which set goes where. I usually just fit them into the drum and check the clearances. If they're good, then it's good. Otherwise I flip them and re-check. I don't know that I've seen different steel widths, usually the stack height difference is accounted for with a set of selective snap rings.

FYI the big thick one is the pressure plate.

Yep, I was careful to set the 2 different clutches in different stacks so I wouldn’t accidentally mix them up. Aside from the difference in thickness I noticed the ones for the rear also had a gap on the inside where a tooth was missing on each one. Check out the attached pics, they are the exact same except in the thickness. I went back to where I bought them and then I realized there were 2 different sizes, but the ones that are the right thickness have notches on the gears, it’s strange

Well, TIL.

The missing tooth is ordinarily to key it to the thing it splines around, but in this case (a) it isn't actually keyed and (b) any alignment you attempt to have before assembly will surely be thrown off as you get the drums to settle in. If they were keyed it would make the hardest step nearly impossible.

I would LOVE to know how they assemble those 2 sections at the factory, because while it doesn't take me all that long to do it, it is definitely a "mess around until it feels right" sort of step which doesn't feel very.....precise. At this point I can sort of feel it when it's right but it still has wobble due to the thrust washer that it sits on. I tend to go more by the gap betwen the teeth on the forward drum & the battlements on the sun shell. I'll fit them together on the bench and then measure the gap, then check for that same gap on final install.
