Help with sector shaft adjustment please

Well, any of you have a friend that knows everything about everything, and generally screws stuff up more than he helps? Yah, we all have one of those.

Anyway, I've been chasing a gremlin in the front end and dealt with all the usual suspects. Was looking to try adjusting the sector shaft and as you know the jam nut and the adjuster screw get rusted together. Hit em with PB blaster a couple of times, but no joy, so went to get the little torch to add a little heat only to come back to 'Hey I got it loose' and proceeded to watch him gleefully spin the adjuster screw in a couple full turns!

So the 1/8th turn I was going to try is out the window and I have no idea where baseline is. I have searched a lot only to find wildly varying methods of resetting.

I would like to do it in the jeep (TJ 2006 4.0). I realize I will have to remove the pitman arm. My questions are, does the box have to be dry? Wet? Does it have to come out?

I am really hoping that one of the Jeep gurus has pity on me, provides step by step instructions and allays my fear of blowing up what I think is a pretty good factory steering box.

Go to the Resources section and pull up the FSM for 2006. It has the procedures.

Yep, the box has to come out. That's what I was afraid of :)

Oh, well, will be another part I've never had off the Jeep before...not too many of those left LOL
