Gladiator has too many compromises?

My wife and I went wheeling with her Gladiator. I was very happy with how the truck performed.

That 'thing' is not a truck. Period. Full stop.
A truck has an eight foot bed/box. They aren't 'people movers', they are cargo movers.
The so-called urban trucks to-day have so much crap on them that they're nudging the GVW with two people and their lunch buckets aboard.
I live in an industrial (logging) town, and we know what a truck is.
That Jeep abortion is an embarrassment.
How would your town feel about a Honda Ridgeline haha

Gladiators are now reaching angry bird status with me. I'm getting tired of seeing them with racks, traction boards, and RotoPax canisters plastered all over the sides. :(

I put 1500 miles on a Gladiator rental this summer. Didn't offroad it, just highway. The freedom panels on the hardtop were cool and I liked the newer hardtop - windshield header latches as well as the hood latches that I don't imagine will fail due to age the way TJ latches lose their stretchiness.

Despite being 20 years newer I didn't find it to drive significantly better than my TJ. It seemed to need more regular steering input to keep it in the lane, which I found annoying.

As others have said, the bed isn't really big enough to be useful as a truck and there doesn't seem to be a good compromise between breakover and departure to make it a serious offroader. I am a small/midsize truck fan; I just don't like driving a bigger vehicle than absolutely necessary.

Did you just make a post about what a "real truck" is while using purple font?

I'm sorry my choice in vehicles and modifications are so tiresome for you. You hate blue too?

It is mine, Thanks!
but no tonneau cover. I don't know of any covers that work with racks.
Didn’t think it had one. Retrax makes them for full size trucks but I don’t see them for gladiators. I’d want the protection from thieves and the elements. surprised nobody makes them.

Great looking rig though and I’m sure it’s a lot of fun.

Its true, I keep telling my Gladiator its not a greek warrior. But it says "you don't use your wrangler to round up cattle either"

Then I say but you're not a real truck. But it looks at my friends Gladiator and says "Someone forgot to tell that one". Its pulling a 28 foot airstream while on 35's.

Yeah, but your bed is small... well I can carry a set of 5 35" tall tires....

But your a jeep and you can't off road... but I can go places most trucks can't

IMG_20200619_173838.jpg

But your a jeep and the interior is cheap...

IMG_20200131_112323.jpg

And trucks are hard to park...

IMG_20200221_073629.jpg

But you're a liftestyle vehicle...

IMG_20200722_175629.jpg

God, I hope so.

The Gladiator is not the right vehicle for everyone. But it's the right vehicle for some of us. If you need a "real" truck, this isn't it. If you need a "real" rock crawler, this isn't it. But it's pretty decent at being both.
