the fat 1 is a push lock fitting it should have a plastic insert, that's your pressure fuel line to the engine,
the other is a vapor/vent tube and just shoves on the hard line, it retains no pressure.

I've had mine out a couple times over the years.
The only thing I do different is toss a couple short jack stands under the tank, so as you lower or raise it and is slides or tilts it'll only go as far as the jack stands. But I also apparently prefer to do it with a minimum of 3/4s of a tank of fuel.

A buddy lent me this tool, which made a breeze of separating the vent line...

Toolwiz Automobile Hose Remover Pliers, Auto Fuel and Vacuum Line Tube Hose Remover, Separator Pliers Pipe Repairing Tool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G5QSQFQ/?tag=wranglerorg-20

Having the right tool for the job really does make all the difference. I tried balancing the tank on a piece of wood during the removal, which I quickly realized would be a p.i.t.a. Ran out an picked up a cross beam attachment for my jack that allowed me to really be precise when lining up everything as I re-assembled. Definitely worth it IMO.

These

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. It just helped me drop my tank for a fuel pump replacement.

What replacement pump did you purchase ? My pump is working fine but I haven't had a working gas gauge in a year, I checked everything and I'm confident in my diagnosis, Ive heard so many stories about new pumps failing in just days, weeks or months I just keep going using the trip OD for fuel stops.

I went with a Delphi. I was told they’re a good brand. I was using mileage to gauge fuel as well. Hopefully I won’t have to do that anymore.

Delphi here, about a year in and so far so good.

Since this is an active thread, seems like a good place to ask a question I've been meaning to ask.

I need to drop my gas tank to fix the overflow issue. Is there any other preventative maintenance that is good to do while the tank is out?

just general cleanup is good as the gas tank skid and the crossmember can hold a lot of dirt on top. I also used that opportunity to replace my rear shocks. Not that it can't be done otherwise, but it was easier.

A good hosing off. 🤣

I also took the opportunity to cut down the internal vent hose giving me more fuel capacity.
