Hi all, hoping I can get help…checked a few of the suggested threads but not all so apologize if missed this…

Replaced fuel tank with a genright unit, but in pulling the sending unit, in the bottom of the old tank was a rectangular what looked like filter material, but it doesn’t actually seem to filter as there is two holes in it, one I assume lines up with one of the three feet, and the other with the center hole in the sending unit…so not sure what this is, how it actually goes on, and if I should replace it…help?!

Edit…2001 TJ wrangler

Thanks!!

Wondering if I should replace this and since the pump is out and if so, what part do I look for?

Ok, so another question, after all done, it took forever for the jeep to get fuel and start…to the point I was starting to get worried the fuel pump wasn’t working…but eventually it did…

So my question, from some forums it sounded like the fuel pump on a TJ (mines 2001 with I6 and manual) turns on with the key and of course can’t hear it over cranking…so does it only turn on when jeep is starting or running or am I missing something stupid (I have a lot of those moments…forgot to undo the retainer bolts on my second rear axle and was cursing it because the other came out so easy!).

Thanks!

The fuel pump is only activated for about 2 seconds when the key is turned to the start position, this cycle is supposed to bring the fuel rail up to full pressure. When the computer is happy it's running then pump is on.

Ok, did see something like that in one of the threads as well, but thought I saw somewhere else someone saying something different.

So now the question is, given that, cranking the engine after a fuel pump or tank replacement isn’t the way to prime everything, but just doing multiple short start attempts is?

If you go to the resource section the OEM shop manual is available to download for free, lots of good info about systems operation in there.
