Frame rot

When I get rid of this one there won't be any more. My garden is full. 🤫

I recently fell down into a 'why men are not getting married anymore' YouTube algorithm rabbit hole. It's pretty interesting, many moving parts, the salient features being generations of men getting punk-slapped by the court system via-a-vis support/alimony, the lingering after effects of the me-too movement, the emergence of the 'boss-babe', the independent woman end result of decades of feminism that has churned out legions of women that relentlessly proclaim 'I don't need no man', and the 'toxic masculinity' campaign waged against men.

Put all that in a blender & spin it around for a while & men have, according to the statistics, walked away in huge numbers; the fear of being accused of something, the ultra-high expectations they can't meet, and the reality that if they move forward and things go sideways, the loss of a huge chunk of their property... apparently they are concluding in ever increasing numbers that it just isn't worth it anymore. Who is most upset about all this, well, women naturally, the men are making a conscious decision of their own free will, the women that want to get married are not part of that decision, they're just stuck with a shrinking pool of men that are willing to get married.

It's apparently not only in the realm of marriage but also dating, that's plummeted as well. That particular aspect has been impacted by social media/on-line dating apps, seems that 80 or 90% of women chase only the top 10% of men, as they all appear to believe they themselves are top 10% of women, a mathematical impossibility, but a belief that's been fostered by social media which ceaselessly reinforces the idea that you (ever single woman) are beautiful irrespective of any subjective or objective realities.

I don't know where all this is going, but it all seems to fit right in the larger shit-show that is the 2020's.

I also don't know why I just wasted a couple minutes stinking up a frame rot thread with this nonsense , I'll show myself out.

Bought 4 more jack stands for supporting at the body mounts. Planning on starting this project up in the next few days.

Any one that has done this frame repair have to remove the gas tank? I don't really want to mess around with that.

As far as alignment I am thinking that I would disconnect the transmission mount and one side of the skid plate and just loosen the other side.
I'll use a jack to support the skid while its sagging, this will allow room to work. This way i can align the new frame rail. Any Fault with that thought process?

My friend that did the welding required that it be removed. So I say yes remove it.
It really wasn't that hard. Perfect opportunity to give it a good wipe down and check for rust on the gas tank skid.

How are you going to cut the back side of the frame rail if you don't drop the skid plate completely? You're going to need clear access to cut and then clean up the cut to make sure you've removed ALL the rust. And, of course, you'll need to support the tranny when you remove the skid plate.

I haven't gotten into it yet, but i was thinking that it would drop low enough for m to get back there. Your are probabalyk right i will likely need to take it right off. Just concerned about the alignment.

I have started the work, finally.
Only 1 bolt twisted off, so far. Thanks to Kroil oil.

I removed the skid plate and started working through the suspension.
The front piece of the skid plate was pretty bad and isn't REALLY needed, so i just cut that off.

The more I dig in the more I think that this shouldn't be that bad, I have about $800 invested so farand probably will be spending some dough on control arms and a quieter exhaust.

Getting started is half the battle haha. Look forward to seeing some pics.

I think the skid plate might have some function in stiffening the frame and overall for harmonic vibrations so I'm not sure cutting parts of it off is the best thing but probably doesn't matter if it was already mostly gone anyway.

Appreciate the input, Trying to be practical on my time as this is not going to be around for many more years, unfortunately.
This still has a good drive train and IMO worth it, opposed to making a

I'm really just trying to keep this around for a few more years, and save up for something newer.

This will be an A to B type of car for work for its final years.

looks to need a complete frame swap & the tub has rust too, have you considered just parting it out or are you committed to this direction?

I suppose there is a part of me that wants to just give up on it entirely. But I've owned this Jeep for going on 18 years, Trying to wring out a few more years. Even if i only get more year its better than a years of car payments, prices of even used cars is ridiculous.

My 2001 Jeep was so rotted, a welder told me that he has to have something to weld to. I sold the engine and transmission.

Now I've got a rust free 2004.

Tub and frame’s are cheaper than used cars. At the very least you need both those items. It isn’t a horrible project to swap.
