You have to consider in my situation the actual miles will be nil. I just checked and of the two vehicles that this one would replace, the daily driver went 2,897 miles last year and the Superduty only went 588 miles. The TJ went 3,046 miles. So whatever I buy will likely never see issues that start to pop up on vehicles as miles pile on. True, if I buy one I will likely drive it more, at least at first, but none of our vehicles ever get tons of miles put on since we're retired and the miles get spread over 5 vehicles. I won't live long enough to pile on big miles, so longevity is not at the top of my list any more. Plus, I'm spending my kid's inheritance.
 
^^^ I'm in agreement! As another retired guy (early boomer) owning five vehicles just for me, each has individual purposes, yet not driven much annually. Accordingly, I have them on an insurance policy bundled with the home policy and with stated mileage caps to reduce annual cost paid in one lump sum. My only "high mileage" vehicle is the 2005 TJ Rubi, purchased two months ago, now just short of 91k total miles. Each week since then, I've been doing deferred maintenance projects to increase reliability during off-pavement recreation in remote terrain, which is its sole purpose (augmenting Can-Am SxS). Every one of those five vehicles (except one) is 4WD - the exception being a highly performance modded 2006 MINI Cooper S (last model year of the supercharged R53), currently with just 9.5k total miles. It's called "Disposable Income" for a good reason... :cool:

As a guy with many vehicles that I don't really have a particular daily and if I am in your shoes there are a couple things I would avoid.

I would not want any engine that has a turbo. Period. If that ever fails your repair bill will have surpassed any lifetime savings in fuel. Just too complicated and too many things to fail.

The newer the vehicle the more electrical issues you will run into. There seems to be a lot of vehicles that are 5 years old for sale. Is that because people are worrying about currentor future electrical issues? Today's cars run the risk of being totaled by the insurance company for electrical issues.

Direct injection is just asking for carbon issues, especially if putzing around town. Port injection does not have these issues. Most makers have shifted to direct knowing the carbon issue but are more intent on reported mpg rather than customer satisfaction. Toyota and Ford have direct and port hybrid systems. Ford hybrid is only available on their 4.6 and 5.0 V8.

Ford cam phaser issue. This is common on the 5.0 and non existent on the 4.6. I have many work trucks with the 4.6 and several are in the 400k area.

Transmissions. 10 speed is such a POS every maker is facing lawsuits as they all used them.

If I was in need of only 1 vehicle I would buy a 2015-2017 F150 super cab. Aluminum body, 5.0 and the 6 speed transmission. Trim package based upon availability.

+ 1 The only direct injected turbo engine I would consider is a 5.9 Cummins 12 valve I-6 .
 
There are 2 tire and wheel choices, the vast majority of Rangers come with 255/70R-17s and a few come with 255/65R-18s. The 18s are 31" and the 17s are 29.5". The 17s have a sidewall height of 7" and the 18s only 6.5"

How much of a difference in the on road ride will that extra 1/2" of sidewall make? I'm leaning toward 18s for the extra height but then I also have to remember this truck will not be used for heavy offroading, and even with the 17s the ground clearance is still more than a stock TJ at 9.3".

edit: oops I made a booboo. The two different combinations have the exact same height of 31", the only difference is the 17s have a half inch more sidewall.

Ordered a Ranger 4x4 custom build today. It was the only way I could get everything I wanted and nothing I didn't want. They're saying 3 to 5 months. Computer generated pics below.

2.7 ecoboost engine, off road package, advanced trailer tow package, 360 camera, XLT high trim level, spray in bed liner.

This is the first brand new personal vehicle I have ever bought in my life. Work van was the only new vehicle I had bought before this as I got a huge tax break on that one.

BTW the 2024 I had lined up didn't really exist, here's the story:

Well I think I got screwed. I was all set to buy the 2024 with 3,000 miles on it, the price was good and I asked the salesman to send me a pic of the door sticker so I could get the mfg date and payload which he sent me late yesterday afternoon. I made an appt for 8:30 this morning, had my trade all ready and drove the 2 hours to the dealership in Mesa, AZ.

When I arrived instead of having the truck out for me to look at the first thing he said was "take a seat in the office while I get your trade approved". Thought this was odd, I thought the first order of business would be to show me the vehicle as I haven't seen it in person yet. Well after about 20 min he returns to the office and says "your trade checks out OK and we can give you the full amount we discussed but the Ranger got sold last night, but we have more just like it in the 2025s" :confused: What??? It got sold between 4:00 PM and closing time?

Needless to say I was pretty pissed. I told him "no you don't, I looked" and he said "yes we do and proceeded to show me window stickers but none were what I wanted, either the wrong colors or the wrong option packages. I knew they didn't have anything I wanted because I checked inventory at every Ford dealer in Arizona, took me many hours. I knew his inventory better than he did. He kept trying to talk me into a blue one and I just got the keys back for my trade and walked out. Back to square 1. I'm pretty sure this was a bait and switch. I found out later it is common for dealers to leave ads up for bargains after they are sold just to draw you in, which in my case wasted 4 hours of my time plus fuel.
 
I hate that, and it seems to be getting worse. They draw you in with vehicles that sold months prior, and then try to get you into a vehicle that isn't even close to what the other one was.

Congrats on the new truck! Whatever the manufacturer suggested maintenance intervals are, I would half them.
