Extreme death wobble

Did you put new tires on yet?
My first guess would be those black oval lumps.
I’ll swap them tomorrow and do the alignment ...maybe this will cure it...but I’m getting this shimmy that seems to want to start a death wobble at 80-90. Last thing I want at this speed is my front tires skipping off the pavement

Because you solved only part of your problem ..the loose components that can allow or exacerbate death wobble . Now you have to deal with those clapped out tires . The vehicle can withstand higher speeds , as it's tighter and fights back better , but the same root problem (the tires) is still there .

Death wobble can be only a low tire , out of balance tires , only loose components , but most of the time it's a combination of the last two. Not always , but usually. I know of one case where a brake rotor caused it on JK.

With 277,000 miles , you are way past needing some parts replaced up front , hence that unbelievably loose track bar ....and bad tires are not only shaking the vehicle , but accelerating wear.

The tire/chassis relationship is like the mind /body relationship..you really can't separate it , and there is no substitute for good tires. Some all terrains would be heavenly.

I will add this , and I would say this to my sister.....watch what you spend , you need a newer Jeep with less miles when you can swing it . At the same time , make it safe and if your heart is in keeping it , be thorough and we will support you with ideas all we can.

What happens on one with that mileage is parts get replaced as they fail , so you end up with parts of various ages , and they then fail at various times , which can seem like constantly.

Wait ....lol it’s not miles lol 277 000KM. Newer Jeep? Are you crazy lol I’m going to unfollow you now HAHAHAHAH jk I will always be a TJ owner - I don’t like anything newer then 2006 so I guess I’m screwed lol I’m very handy. I grew up on a farm with a father who always owned cjs, yjs and tjs. It grew on me and I will never own anything newer then LJ.

All that being said — winter is now over in Toronto Canada and I’m more then happy to fix up my Jeep for the summer ;). Rotate the tires. Maybe a pcm(doubt it)— bringing it to the shop to get proper diagnosis not interested in figuring it out anymore— too complicated fuck that shit. Replace passenger side axel ujoint. And this baby that’s 15 years old will be running smooth like crunchy peanut butter lol.....

But why settle for crunchy peanut butter when you can have 15 year old smooth peanut butter... Anyway, it’s been funny reading some of this stuff. Hope you get it worked out!

She's going to leave me!!

I'm sorry I didn't mean new as in a newer model but I meant something in newer condition... Poor choice of words... I never encourage anyone to get divorced, to file bankruptcy or purchase a JK.

You've got a lot of grit so anything you do is going to pan out. I think a lot of that is just a real Canadian. Hardy people.

Hahahahaha @ the JK comment

I'd recommend getting a new flag nut for the track bar. You aren't going to get it as tight as you need it and keep it that tight if it's just a nut back there with a screwdriver for leverage.
I didn’t even torque it tightly lol I just did one little tug to fasten the nut with the screw driver lol 😂.....ya....laying in the rain at 6am in the morning In the dark with the flashlight on my phone. I probably will never touch that area again in my life too lol I have Bruises and pain still from that project that should have taken me30 min to accomplish my goodness —- I went through HELL with replacing that tracbar. What are the chances of replacing a tracbar on this 2005 Wrangler now? I could care less lol. Doing everything I already did again? Sure

If the flag nut is toast or the flag has come off, a combination wrench will fit up into the area surrounding that nut so the bolt can be fully tightened. You just need to slightly turn the bolt to turn the nut to the right position so the combination wrench can be slipped onto the nut. I've had to do that several times over the years.
