Long time listener, first time caller here….interested in swapping a rear Dana 44 into my 98. Probably don’t need to elaborate on the difficulty in finding one. The housing alone would actually be my preference for various reasons, so I turned my attention to just that. Using the parts list(s) here in the forum, I searched and found what I believe is a compatible housing for my 98 (by all means please correct me if I’m wrong) being sold by Mopar Parts Overstock, operated by Lakeland Motors, LLC in Lakeland, Florida.

My question is whether anyone can vouch for this specific website, or has previously purchased from any OEM parts website that Lakeland Motors, LLC has operated?

I’m a pathological skeptic and am wondering if someone more seasoned than me (first Jeep) may be able to help with their opinion or experience. Thanks in advance.

That price is good...but man you've got a lot of money in shafts, carrier, gears, bearings, brakes...

What's shipping cost?

No experience with this particular site, but when I got my Mopar radiator I went through about 5 “Mopar Overstock” sites until I found one that actually had it in stock and could ship. Many of these places will list inventory planning to drop ship, but then can’t actually source it.

Looks like $87.50 shipping. Seems low also, but my reference to this point is fully dressed axle assemblies being $200+ east to west coast.

Now that’s definitely what I could see this being. The drop ship revolution. I’m so out of touch with commercial America, largely by choice. Thanks for sharing your experience, that’s helpful.

I won't vouch for the site/company but I have made purchases from them in the past without issue.

Okay, that’s helpful, thank you. I’ve since seen nearly identical prices at two other OEM places that other members also used with success, per other threads. That trend and your input reassures as much as one could hope for. Much appreciated.

Thanks everyone for the input, I’ll give it a shot if the bare housing indeed becomes the path forward. I definitely had no idea a Mopar supplied housing could be obtained, whether new or remanufactured. Was not on my radar at all before viewing the parts list in this forum. In general, the wealth of information here is unexpected and game-changing for me.

@macleanflood, super valid point on the costs, I’m still skeptical myself and in the exploration phase. This idea originated when I summarized my goals and saw I’d actually be largely gutting a lot used axle assemblies I was seeing. I have future plans, so of course specific parts (at least parameters) in mind and I’m a buy once/cry once person when feasible. The foreseeable future parts and labor costs in upgrading from the existing that are in these used assemblies factors into the equation. So, with new parts being a somewhat equitable essential cost in the long run, it seems worth investigating the overall cost/benefit of a fresh housing with 100% credible integrity VS. the price inflated axle used assemblies of varying integrity that I’m seeing on the market through online junkyard networks, EBay, Marketplace, etc. Damn that was a long sentence. Ending the search soon and getting on with this shit is worth a little extra cost to me too.
