EVAP Leak

I have an 02 jeep tj. It is a 4 cylinder and an automatic transmission. When I bought the jeep it had a code for an evap leak. I tried replacing gas cap, but it did not go away. Since then the motor locked up and has had a reman engine dropped in it. When I got it back the evap code was gone. On the highway I would usually sit at about 2500 RPM. The other day I had two evap codes come up and now on the highway I sit at about 2000 RPM. Does the evap leak correlate with anything with my RPM being lower? Is this something I should be worried about?

You could run a smoke test on the evap system. You probably have a leaky hose or cracked fitting.

Let me ask you this. Ever since I had my jeep its had an evap leak code. On the highway it has always been at about 2500 rpm. I got a new engine put in and it ran at 2500 rpm and within this 500 mile "break in" period it randomly started cruising at 2000 rpm. What could cause that? Is 2500 rpm normal or is 2000 rpm normal?

Need mention I have 32" tires and a 2" lift.

The only thing I can think of that would cause a difference in RPM with the same vehicle speed is a lockup torque converter. I dunno squat about Jeep autos, though, so no idea if '02s have a lockup converter or not.

That part is located under the hood on the drivers side. I did a smoke test when I had the same issue and I just had to replace a clip because even tho it snaps into place there was just a bit too much play in the worn clip.
