Waymo must be active in LA

Protesters are torching Waymo robocars, valued at $600,000+ each. They request a pickup at the protest site, the car arrives, and they set it ablaze.

Los Angeles police are urgently requesting Waymo to shut down its self-driving car app as rioters continue to exploit the service luring vehicles to protest zones before setting them on fire. With violence escalating rapidly and clashes intensifying between protesters, police, and the National Guard, multiple Waymo cars each valued at over $600,000 have been torched and destroyed in the chaos....

Had to do a bit of research on this and somehow I'm not surprised this is happening in California (sorry California members). If I've got this correctly, these "upstanding American citizens" are protesting the removal of illegal immigrants by....attacking and destroying self-driving taxis?

This feels almost like what happens when a Philadelphia sports team wins a championship. :D Way to make a statement, morons!

The latest EV fire fighting gadget is a system that punctures the bottom of the vehicle and sprays water directly into the battery to reduce the heat and stop the runaway combusiton.

Not sure what the 2nd guy Johan was talking about there, those are NOT widely used in the UK. The fire brigade in this country use Lith-ex Fire Extinguishers, with suppression blankets and still prefer to let them burn out if the fire is contained.

We will soon find out the demand for ev SUV's.

Rivian cut sales forecast from 50,000 to 25,000 for the year but only managed to sell 4,400 in the first quarter.
Lucid wants to sell 20,000 but only sold 3,300 for the quarter.
Fisker is now defunct.

Put in a high torque ICE engine and I think they have a winner...ev only might be a $2 billion awakening.

I wonder how much the cheaper Kia/Hyundai EV penetrate the market ? However it seems that EV's in general are for upper class incomes , and virtue signalers . I had to laugh at Elon's ability to single handedly change the narrative on the virtue signalers. Talk about a fickle market segment .

The Scout Traveler SUV looks pretty sweet to me, just wish it had an ICE. I am pretty dead set on never owning electric.

Same with that smaller bare bones pickup that was all the buzz a few months ago. Oh cool small cheap pickup... Oh EV, nevermind, don't want to think about it ever again

It’s always amazed me that here in the states there is so much focus on how fast the EV’s are. Almost every single one - but especially the Tesla. Car and Driver famously referred to Tesla’s acceleration as a “Party Trick.” How about develop an EV with reasonable performance, but concentrate on range?

I think about this as well about how pretty much every EV is a luxury car. If you want the general masses to adopt them, maybe don't make them all live in the same market as BMWs and benzes? I know not 100% of them are but most are, and all the startups like rivian are making them like this
