Duratracs seem almost perfect...

The only reason I like my Duratracs over an MT is because I drive it often in pouring rain, packed snow and I use it for more of an all terrain vehicle than I do as a dedicated off road vehicle.

The weather here in Portland sort of warrants a nice All Terrain
Don't get me wrong, I have DTs on my TJ and will likely be replacing them with the same thing when they wear out.

I don't blame you, I've found them to be a very capable tire. They don't have the puncture resistance of a true MT, but they perform almost nearly as well in almost all terrains which I really love.

I still say if they'd do the Kevlar in those Duras, they'd hit it out of the park. I was on the fence with those for weeks, toughest decision..yet as soon as I walked into DT, they had some huge 34-35"s" on display of various tires, and I got to compare, it was decided. The sidewalls even on the high load Duras were very thin/flimsy, and that was my only concern from all the reports on that with the Duras. Maybe they figure the Duras are selling so well, why bother with the kevlar or stronger sidewall. It is a good looking tire. Heck, I'd have paid a good bit more for the Kevlar upgrade, I think most would, seems like a great Jeep tire.

So what is the consensus for a tire similar to the Dura's that would be good in the rocky terrain like we have here in Nevada. I've split the sidewalls on the Goodyears I'm running now.

This is the million dollar question, I too wonder the same.

They should have the duratracs and the duratracs with Kevlar available so if you don't think you need the Kevlar you can still buy the cheaper tire but for those who are in rocks more often than not they can get it

Amen! That would be the best possible idea Goodyear could have. I would buy a set in a split second.

I liked the duratracks on my XJ when they were new. However they wore fast and due to the wind out here for lumpy. Granted I got 3 yearsout of them. However way less than 40k miles.

Also I don't see too much mud.

I've only got 200 miles or so on my Duratracs. The C load ride is definitely softer (more comfortable IMO) than the E load ride of my worn out MTR's. I am impressed with the ride quality and the quietness on pavement of the DT. When I was tire shopping, there were two things I noticed for 16" wheels. The first is that almost all of the 245/75/R16 tires were rated for an E load range. The second is that almost all of the E load range tires had black sidewalls. I like the white lettering of the tires to face out. To me it just looks better. If I had to do it over again I would probably try and get some 15" Ravine or Canyon wheels. Even though I love my Moab wheels (by far my favorite), there are a lot more choices for C load range tires in 31'/10.5/R15 tires with white raised lettering. Like this jeep for example......

This is not my jeep. I just really like the look of this one with the color, interior, wheels, tires and all.

Cool jeep. Is that chili pepper red? I just finally got doors off mine, after a decade of owning it!!! Pins were bent and it took a jack and some boards and two of us, to finally get the driver's side off. I lubed the hell out of the pins....Actually bent the bottom of the door a little, just would not come off, year after I tried, the dealer tried. I finally said screw it, even if it breaks, I'm doing this. Was fun to finally drive it the way God intended jeeps to be driven.

Still diggin' my KO2s. They were amazing all winter, never a slip and they ride smooth. I'm more a fan of no white letters so I had the shop turn 'em around. Two days ago, got some small spacers installed to give a little height for the tires. I didn't want much, like to keep a low center. Even after a decade, still love this thing. My humble mods are done!

I went with cooper st maxx. They have much beefier Sidewalls than duratracs, I was almost dead set on getting the duratracs but decided to try something newer. I had ordered the brand new falken at3w but they are super back ordered so went with the coopers.

Yup, Chili pepper red. This is probably my all time favorite TJ color. I believe they made it in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

The St Maxx looks like a great tire. My neighbor down the street has a set on his full size dodge pickup. My beef with these tires were the cost. They were about $70 more per tire than the duratracs I bought.
