Don't Do It This Way

This thread, post 1, has a message. Be careful what you do out of emotion.

You guys ever get sick with a vehicle, maybe an old work truck or something, sell it for about a scrap price and see it running around town the next 10 years?

It happens. I did it with a plug spittin’ 5.4 1 ton van and someone figured out a fix and I saw it on a job site one day.

Right now my business is killing me….the government job threats have frozen a lot of our market….selling both of mine is tempting….but the other side is the regret later….and cost to replace.

I was young and dumb and impatient at the time… I’ve had years now and I am absolutely incredibly stupid… been working real hard on it

It takes years of practice for us guys to reach the level of realized proficiency that we have beyond the age of 50. If you ask our wives, the age of enlightenment goes well beyond the 50 years I've claimed it takes. Just saying. (Ask me how I know. Better yet, ask my wife...) :sneaky:

I had a friend do that circa 2010. He had a '00-'01 Dodge 2500 long bed 4x4 with Cummins and 6-speed in a "work truck" trim. He beat on and abused that truck and started thinking it was worn out, and that he wanted a newer truck. One night he had a few beers in him and some guy made him an offer he wishes he would have refused. 15 years later I still see that truck around town, and so does my buddy. She's cleaned up nice now.

It looked almost identical to this one.

A little salt-in-the-wound to end that story, my buddy replaced that truck with a newer '06 or '07 2500 (4x4 Cummins/auto) like he had originally thought about, then within the first year or two that transmission shit the bed while he was driving and it took out the transfer case with it. He still doesn't like to talk about it.

I got married because I was tired of being right all the time…

What he originally had is one of the most sought after engine / transmission packages on earth- even people that don’t like them buy them because you can’t kill them.

I ran into a lady at a gas station that had a Dually set up that way, and she could not keep people off of her trying to buy it…she pulled a boat with it.

It was a good truck. I rode in and drove it many miles. I'd like to have it, and I know my buddy has made a few offers on it, but the current owner seems to be holding firm. Honestly, he's taking much better care of it than what my friend did or would. I bet that truck has north of 300K on it by now.
