My Boxer loves to be with me where ever I am. Will sit in jeep while I am working in garage or front yard hoping we will go somewhere and likes sticks logs larger than he is.

I’m not sure if you have ever considered it but have you ever looked into a Greyhound? I’ve had one (and will have another soon) and that was the best dog. The retired racers are already potty trained, kennel trained and trained on a leash. They are low maintenance, very affectionate and are VERY laid back. Mine loved everyone and they sleep about 18 hours a day. Beautiful dogs. This is Gracie.Spent 30 minutes perusing this thread. I have had 2 different labs. The first was Howie and I got him in 2005 at the local animal shelter. Full lab. The only dog to not act the fool when we were in the room looking for our next pet. I didn’t feel a connection to him at first. But when we left the room and were walking up the outside corridor, one dog was barking like mad. It was Howie and we looked back and he was looking at us and going nuts. Saying please come back and take me. We couldn’t resist. He was 5yo. A black lab. Not the blocky kind, the slender taller kind. The most well behaved and smart dog. I loved him endlessly until he passed at 11 from cancer in 2011.
In 2008 I adopted a 3yo chocolate that had hip dysplasia real bad in both hips. He was at a rescue organization. To get his hips fixed would cost $4000 and the rescue organization was offering to pay half. I could not stand the idea he might be put down. So I went to look and fell for him. Sweetest most gentle dog. He was always at someone’s side until he passed in early 2018 from cancer. He was 13 and his name was Bo (NOT Beau). Loved car rides. I didn’t get my Jeep until a month after his passing.
I currently have a 10yo Golden named Max. I adopted him from a rescue organization in 2011 when he was 18 months. He had a very bad case of heart worms. I love him. But he’s sometimes hard to figure out. For the first 5 years I had him he was very strong willed. He was destructive too when left alone too long. He’s mostly over that now. He likes to ride in the car. Had him in the Jeep once and it wasnt pleasant. He was too excited and would not stay still
I, like the OP want a next dog that can be my Jeep dog sometimes, but is loyal, not overly rambunctious and can handle being alone at times since we both work and are gone from about 7:30-5 during weekdays. I am thinking I want another lab. But we have also been eyeballing French Bulldogs. I just don’t want a puppy due to our work schedule. And while I really want to give all senior dogs a good home to live out their golden years, it’s just too hard emotionally and financially (health issues). Finding a young/middle aged adult lab or frenchie that doesn’t have major health or temperament issues is like finding a Rubihara.
Pictures are Max and Bo. I don’t have a digital of Howie on hand. View attachment 111928View attachment 111929
Actually no I’ve never considered one as I’ve never been around one. I think they made Dog racing illegal here in Florida about a year or two ago. Interestingly enough there is a dog track about 2 miles from my home.I’m not sure if you have ever considered it but have you ever looked into a Greyhound? I was thinking the same thing about the lab being able to jump up in my Jeep! They are pretty agile dogs from what I have heard. I was looking into a mix breed to hopefully stack the odds in favor of the dog having a long healthy life.
My childhood neighbor had two golden retrievers and one of them died from cancer so I believe they are susceptible to it.

Both male and female labs are great. It seems like the females are more willing to accept and comply with commands where the males are more head strong.
View attachment 44458 View attachment 44459 View attachment 44460 We got our first Golden 34 years ago. We now have number 4 and 5. They helped raise our kids, camp with us, hunt with me, and have been the best companions anyone could ask for. My 3 year old Caly goes nuts when I say “Jeep Jeep”.
Haha! She does that look all the time to me.Scrolling through this thread, I noticed @abart 's avatar and I think they have that covered, lol.
So I want to get a dog, haven’t had one since I was like 5. I have cats because they are low maintenance, but with my lifestyle becoming more active I feel a dog would be a good companion as well as a loyal friend. I am leaning to getting something with lab in it. And obviously a breed that likes rides, someone has to come with me in my Jeep!! I’m thinking maybe a pit/lab mix? As I hear they are friendly, active, and kinda goofy so fun haha. I know a lot of you guys have dogs, so what breed are they and why do you like that breed? Btw this is just for fun as much as it’s for me to learn about some breeds.
Feel free to share stories, pictures (hopefully some of them with your Jeep [emoji38][emoji106]), all things that involve your dog!
This is one of the little guys I am looking at. View attachment 44005
