All my searching and I have half saying you need a vent and half saying you don't.

I have the 2002 tj 2.5l w/ ax5

I want to get the b&m short shifter.
Q: do I need to tap a vent hole on the new shifter or do I not have to.

I've seen videos of ppl doing the vent and videos of ppl installing without putting a vent hole in the shifter .... Sooo?!??!

With the shifter linkage not being a sealed unit there really is no reason for additional venting. Added a short throw to my AX-5 years ago without issue.

That is what the brass fitting is for.

That is what it looks like for the nsg370. Your ax5 may be different.

I'm thinking, that if I have one in mine but you don't in yours, it's probably not needed.

I have one on my NV3550 with no vent, no problems. I'm not sure why you would need a vent when there is already one on top of the transmission?

The AX15 vent is in the factory shift tower. That is why it’s a discussion for AX15. I believe AX5 is the same.
