Current Atlas Wait Thread

You think you put in more expanding foam than AA does? I had more foam than rubicrawler by far. It was fun to get rid of.
Oh, not at all as far as volume of actual foam goes. They also ship theirs in a large cardboard box that is about 28 x 28 x 28 so there is lots of room for foam. I shipped his in a wooden crate that is 21 x 23 x 13 without a single molecule of air space that is not occupied by foam or Atlas parts. There is literally 6 cans of spray foam in that box with the Atlas, all the necessary bits, and 2 quarts of the supplied gear oil. We had to make room for everything by getting rid of all the plastic bags it came in except for the instructions, we put those in a plastic bag otherwise that would have just been mean.

You will be thrilled and amazed!
I am ready and waiting!! I have lusted after an Atlas since about 3 years ago when I found out they existed. I almost rolled my jeep on an off camber snow slope and the guy after me walked it clean. I asked him how he kept his rear from sliding out, he's like oh I did a front dig. I was like never heard of her but she sounds nice.

My favorite part of this whole endeavor was "You really didn't think I was serious, who the hell in their right mind puts cash in a box and mails it?"

There is a story about the early iPhone where Steve Jobs dropped one into a fish tank and pointed out the escaping bubbles. That was all empty space to fill or get rid of.

When I worked at the ambulance company, the industry was switching away from plywood backboards and lots of companies were showing up with samples of their various plastic offerings. The claim was always lightweight and unbreakable construction. I'd grab their sample, walk out to the parking lot, heave it into the air with my best impersonation of a drunk Irishman tossing a caber so it landed on one end. Without fail they would blow the ends out. I'd pick it up, take it back to them, show them the carnage and ask them to come back with one that wouldn't break.

While that may seem like an odd test, all of the plywood backboards had the ends broken off. Not sure how or why but that part needed to not do that.

I think AA uses instapak... Far cleaner that what I'm assuming Blaine has done for B00mb00m
All of those have one thing in common. They isolate the packed item from the foam with a sheet plastic barrier. We took no chances on that leaving a gap that would allow movement and it is all foamed in place sans plastic.

Has ANYONE here ever actually shipped a meaningful amount of cash? Even the 20 year post office veteran thought it was illegal.

I knew a few guys that would ship large amounts of cash in mail that would make your transaction appear small. Nothing illegal about it. They also have USPS money orders if you'd rather.

Every time this thread updates I'm hoping we'll finally see this package. I'm sitting on pins and needles over here.

@B00mb00m we may need a live unboxing :ROFLMAO:

I have many times. Besides, what is the actual difference between a 1000 dollars worth of parts and a 1000 dollars in a box going through the mail system? I've sent millions of dollars worth of parts through the USPS with an astonishingly low attrition rate. They have lost or damaged less than 1 in 5000 packages and that's just so we can't say they are perfect which they nearly are.

some shippers list currency as prohibited items.
The USPS does not but that isn't the point. The point was just toss that shit in a box, tape up the corners and mail it. We do it all the time and the key is, do not mark it, do not draw attention to it, just mail it. Ever order anything from the US Mint? Almost all of that is considered currency and it goes USPS.
