Hey yall I just installed the currectlync system on my LJ and had an alignment done today. The tech at the shop said my steering wheel can’t get straight because the threads on the drag link adjuster sleeve bottomed out. Which look like it did. The top of my steering wheel is facing 9oclock when driving straight. Has anyone cut the threads on one of these to make it shorter?

Kind of at a loss of what to do. Maybe I messed up the install. Alignment shops I’ve called around just shrug their shoulders pretty much. Do I take to mechanic/ 4x4 shop or try to DIY?

Cut about 3/8" off of each and center the steering wheel.

Thank you for the reply. I’m trying to figure out the best way to do this. Should I use cut off wheel, remove the bar and use bandsaw, or call a machinist and see if they can do it? Also I wonder if the threads would get messed up from cutting them? Sorry I’m not great with mechanic things. This is the first time I have installed something like this. The whole adjustment process is difficult for me.

It looks like your track bar is bottomed out too, is your axle centered? How much lift do you have?

I removed the old trackbar then set the jeep on the ground, shook it a bit, then installed new adjustable track bar. And PO said 4inch but I measured and got 3in lift.

Measure how far your tires stick out on each side. I bet your drivers side sticks out further.

Cut off wheel. Grind a small chamfer around the edge of the cut and that will help you get the threads started in the adjustment sleeve.

IF you read the notes for the installation of the Currectlync system; the 2nd note states...

Notes:

  • Intended for use with 0–4 in. of lift out of the box.
  • In vehicles with no lift, or smaller lifts, the tips of the drag link ends may require slight trimming to prevent them from touching each other inside the adjuster sleeve.

I used an angle grinder to shorten the ends. When done shortening chamfer the threads lightly with the disc motion going towards the cut end. That always works for me

I saw that I was just hoping I wouldn’t have to do that 🤣

Before I cut it I would want to check that axel was centered. It can take a fair amount of fiddling to get it centered at ride hight.

There are some good articles on this site about doing it. Mr. Blaine I believe had a step by step write up about hanging a string with a weight from the balancer using a magnet and aligning it with the front center body mount bolt like a gunsight as a point of measure. I have also hung a string with a washer tied to it over the outside of each frame rail and measured to the sway bar brackets from the string.

Measuring from the inside of the tire to the frame rail on both sides is easier. It isn't rocket science

UPDATE: I re centered the axle by adjusting the track bar and got the steering wheel straightened up. I actually had to lengthen the drag link adjuster sleeve to get it straight. And it drives really nice with the new steering. Cured the death wobble issue.

That's what it looked like in the pics to me, glad it was an easy fix.
