Clutch replacement this weekend

Another question, do I try and pull the tranny with the T-case attached or go ahead and separate them?

I separated, I can handle the heavy, but much less awkward, and it was easier to stab it back on I felt like, but I haven’t done both ways, so that’s a guess.

Great time for putting on a cable shifter and / or a Savvy TC up skid.

I'd bet money the flywheel is good, a scuff with emory cloth and brake cleaner and good. Plus if you remove it, then you have to get new bolts etc.
X2, way too many flywheels get replaced for no valid reason. They RARELY need replacing, the most they sometimes need is a little use of a mild grade of sandpaper or emory cloth to remove any possible glazing that may or may not be present. When I permanently removed my flywheel for my conversion to an automatic my flywheel was still in pristine condition. The TJ's specially dome shaped flywheel should never be resurfaced/machine as is normal and common for many other flywheels.

I replaced my flywheel with a Luk simply because my PO did all kinds of hackery on my TJ...and I simply didn't know the province. Simply was peace of mind that when I did the clutch I wouldn't have to pull it all apart and do it again.

Granted 8 months later the 4-5 bearings in my AX-15 started howling...so the transmission came out again (and again...and again x 7 times) until I gave up on my transmission shop and bought a new one from Advanced Adapters.

Your mileage may vary...

Then again I used to be a firm believer in firing the parts canon at an auto repair... anything I touched that was in the path of digging to said part got preemptively replaced. These days all the new parts are shit...the original stuff is usually built better and will last longer than new parts. Dare I even say that for Mopar parts too.

So the replacement went well, no real show stoppers thanks to the advise on this forum, the two Torx bolts on top of the transmission are T14's just so you know. I almost threw out the little keeper spring for the throw-out bearing yoke pivot with the pieces of the cratered throw-out bearing, good save there, as I didn't know it was there until I went to re-assemble it.
The clutch disc and pressure plate looked like they weren't even broke in yet, but the throw-out bearing was in pieces. Spent some time cleaning up and replacing the wire loom in the area above the tranny and T-case, as it was a bit brittle. Wrapped it in an aluminum wrap while I was at it. All in all, the old girl is in pretty good shape.

seems like this is more proof that somewhere Jeep changed the wire loom along the way. I know the stuff on the '05 and '06 gets brittle and just about turns to dust. the loom on my '97 is still fine. I guess when I find that roundtoit I'll start replacing mine. Glad you got her fixed !!!
