Clutch pedal adjustment?

Just got a 2006 TJ (my first Jeep) and couldn’t be happier. Drove a bunch during the shopping experience. The one I picked happens to have the clutch engagement really high off the floor. No real issues shifting but it seems abnormal. Does anyone know of a good way to adjust the bite point? Would it help to bleed the system? Advice welcome.

Someone more experienced than me will chime in but know that Tjs (over their ~10 year run) had 3 different MTs.
So, even though you test drove a bunch - they may have all had different transmissions.
ie youre not really comparing apples to apples with test drive history (unless they were all 05-06).

I have the same MT as you (nsg370) and I also find the bite point pretty far from the floor.
Not an issue - just makes fully depressing clutch pedal sort of unnecessary - as most of the pedal stroke is post clutch engagement/disengagement.

I could be wrong.. But I just swapped an NV3550 for an AX15 and did the clutch in the process. There is no way to adjust the bite point.
Low fluid and/or a failing clutch master/slave will impact the bite point, but that's not adjustable either other than bleeding.
 
The transmission flavor has 0 effect on where the clutch engages/disengages.

It could be normal and just not familiar. Could also be aftermarket parts that don't work exactly like OEM. Could also be worn parts due for replacement.

There is no adjustment for where the clutch engages.

I have driven several 05-06 TJs and every one of them has a very distinct on/off switch feeling with the clutch. The ax15/nv3550 equipped TJs all have had more modulation and nuance to the clutch pedal.

Something in the assembly is creating this difference.

I have an '05 LJR with the NSG370. Almost every vehicle I've owned has had a manual transmission. The new clutch in my Jeep feels normal to me as did the original clutch.

The clutch and hydraulic actuator parts are the same across all manual transmissions in our TJs.
 
Theoretically you could probably shim the slave...space it out with washers...but you run the risk of firing the plunger past the fork into the bell housing.

Something else is wrong. Replacing the master/slave is pretty easy. So is trying to bleed it. But my guess is you need a clutch etc or...worse... that's just what it is.

My wife's JK has the same transmission. It completely sucks. I absolutely hate driving her Jeep.

I learned how to drive a manual on my TJ. The bite point in comparison (this was a 2003 with a NV2550) to a 2020 Jetta is a bit higher on the Jeep IMO. I feel like I used to bring my foot up quite a bit more in the TJ before it started to bite, whereas the Jetta feels like it bites at around 1/3 of the way up (although my Jetta has a clutch delay valve, so that may sway the physics a bit). If it's not slipping or smelling it's probably fine.
