Picture of Center console 2002 wrangler x. Is this a sub ? Researched and this is all I find...copy pasted.

Some TJ models had factory subwoofers in the center console. Check for a cutout or vent holes in the console.

I think some TJs had the console that took the sub, but there wasn't a sub in there. I can't see from your pic, as I'm blind, but if you shine a lite thru the vent holes, you should be able to tell if there's a speaker in there or not.
Also, there's a good writeup around here somewhere about replacing the factory unit with a much more sturdy kicker unit.

Many TJ consoles have a speaker grill but no speaker, so you have to look closely with a flashlight.

There is a screw so good chance it is mounting a sub. Also good chance it is dry rotted. Not really a sub, more of a bass fill. With a decent speaker it is noticeable when it is absent. Should be listed on your build sheet if you have one too if it was OEM installed.

That said, horribly underpowered. Lots of options to upgrade both speaker and power, but just replacing the speaker itself would be a start and isn't very expensive.
