Hi All - total Jeep noob here trying to help my son who bought a semi-basket case 1997 2.5 manual Wrangler.

We're trying to tidy up some of the wiring and noticed 2 wires that are pressed into the (manual) transmission case. The wires aren't connected to anything but their ends are exposed. Both wires are white with a black stripe (or they appear to be - who knows if they are discolored?) and we seem to get 12n across them when the ignition is turned on. This was cause for concern for me as they were bare and exposed so we temporarily insulated them to avoid any further issues.

Can anyone tell me what they are for please?

(second pic is the connecter they lead to)

Thanks for your help

Welcome.

Your gonna find quite a few loose connectors especially with the base SE model. Such as Auto vs Std trans, a/c systems, cruise control, hardtop vs soft ect. but there should not be any exposed power leads. Since the harness is typical across the models there can be a lot of unused plugs.

If you head over to the Resource section there are Factory service manuals free to download and they have extensive info about wiring connectors.

Sorry - its a 1989 model year, not 97 as previously stated

....which probably means I'm on the wrong forum! What a noob! (Just a Dad trying to help out his son)

Thanks for the replies and the help!

No worries, I'm guessing you have the squared off headlights of a Wrangler YJ. (wrangler forum has a YJ section)
