Since we all know that the t-case cable shifter doesn't come with any sort of instructions, is there any guide anywhere that goes over an adjustment process? I continue to struggle to reliably get into 4LO, and here lately the part-time light has been staying on after I'm back in 2WD. I'm not a mechanical engineer, and I don't have my skid plate dropped currently, so if there is an adjustment it's not immediately obvious what it is or how to do it. Any guidance is welcome.

If I remember correctly when I installed my transfer case shift cable I put the transfer case in low and put the shifter in low and set the cable for that position and I didn’t have any problems with neutral or high…

Terminology helps. There are two parts to the "cable" which is actually a cable assembly. There is a cable housing with threaded ends that are used to mount the cable assembly into the brackets and then there is the cable itself which resides in the cable housing.

The t-case and shifter need to be in the same mode. That sets the cable length. You should be able to pop the quick disconnect off of the ball stud or pull the pin on the clevis and then be able to put them right back on without either the shifter or t-case lever changing position. That is how you know the cable length is correct.

The nuts on the cable housing adjust the throw or how far the cable will push or move either end. If you get the shifter hooked up with the correct cable length and it is resting against the end gate, you need to adjust the throw or cable housing to move it off the end gate. We do that for both ends. Sometimes with a 241, we need a bit more at the rear gate since they seem to need a bit more push to get them all the way into 4 low.

In your case, I'd check the cable length first and then move the cable housing at the t-case towards the shift lever to push it a bit further into the 4low detent.

Me and my wife Jessica worked on mine for a while. I'd adjust the end, struggle to get the clevis pin back in since I had the skid plate up... eventually figured out I didn't have enough threads on the t case side, adjusted the shifter side out a bit. It's a Stienjager and it just took time. One rotation at a time and shifting through gears...short test drive to make sure nothing popped out.

you forgot the part about where she plowed your old TJ from behind.

i did as mentioned above. put t-case in 4 low as well as t-case shifter. adjusted cable and it’s been all good.
