Brandon's Arles Blue TJ

Oh crap! I forgot that happens with a raised skid. Mine did the same. The trail fix is still there since the day that happened! Sorry that happened, but good job solving it for the time being!

I thought I'd be good with the BL and MML......I was not! lol I think I'll try to get in there and clean it up a bit, but I may just leave it. As long as it doesn't seem to have issues cooling. Or maybe radius a piece of aluminum and rivet it to the outside of the shroud. I think that would still give enough clearance. But odds are, the trail fix will become a permanent fix lol

My shroud on the Silver Fox had a split all the way through right on top dead center. I drove hundreds of miles with it like that, including our wheeling trip that one time. I did just what you said, a piece of aluminum bent to the shape of the shroud, then put some bolts and nuts and now it’s very solid.

We'll get it twisted up on the 31st and see if you have anymore contact.
I don't think I've got any tools for trimming hard plastic like the shroud either.
Glad it's working out good.

I'm thinking something like this would be worth throwing in the tool kit.
Milwaukee Compact Hack Saw with 10 in. 24 TPI Bi-Metal Blade 48-22-0012 - The Home Depot https://share.google/EJGNk1gHBJhhnKGxS

Just found out my wife has a funeral service to go to on the 31st, so it will just be me and the boy.

I used to have something like that. Don't know what happened to it.

Just go find a Subaru and pick up a pair of dikes

😂

I used a pair for a couple pieces but couldn't get the positioned to really cut out the bulk of it. I think a little saw would be the ticket. Obviously , I shouldn't have to cut a shroud again, but if it can happen to me, it can happen to someone else. Or if it can happen to one piece, it can happen to another.

To fix it right this time you can remove the shroud (so much fun), fix the bottom with Aluminum, drill four new holes 1” higher in the shroud, then re-install. I’m sure you know all that, just saying! I really hate removing the shroud!

I think that sort of blade might do the trick. And for other fupaws too...

I will probably just pick up another shroud and replace it when I do the water pump (another part sitting in a box waiting to be installed). Then I can just adjust the shroud and be done with it. Looks like an eBay unit can be had for around $50. If I had time, I'd just try and get the the junkyard, but I never have time for that unfortunately.

I need to address it before going to Reiter with Rick though. I didn't like the color of the coolant after it boiled yesterday. Definitely needs some attention and there's no sense in draining the coolant more than once.

Well Geez! That’s pretty cheap!

Definitely not liking the sound of that. Wish I could make Reiter. Maybe I can get the tires back on. I’m getting there with the outboard! Ah heck, just looked and that’s a Saturday. Sheesh.

Yea, kind of a last minute no planning deal! Depending on how much time I can get on it, I may just end up draining and refilling coolant. I guess one of three things would happen.

-The coolant would still be in good shape and could be reused if I did the water pump later.
-The coolant would be bad again by the time I replace the water pump and it needs to be flushed anyway.
-I lose good/decent coolant and I'm out $50 of coolant.

@PG. you're still out of commission at the moment?

Unfortunately yes. Beside the furnace just having to be replaced my wife’s car turned out to not be just a lifter problem. It’s spun two rod bearings and needs a complete motor so we dumped that car and had to get her a new car. Jeep is taking the back seat.
