Brake light: need advice

Bought an 04 X and po had installed aftermarket front disc calipers & brakes. The brakes were spongy and I noticed the proportioning valve was unplugged. I plugged it back in and I bled them with the two man approach so my partner stabbed the brakes anytime the light came on. Got all the air out as far as I could tell. Brakes felt better but not great tbh. Today my son went to drive it and the light was on. He stabbed them to shut off the light but it’d come back on. The emergency brake is not on. I’m unsure of what to check next. Any advice would be really helpful.

If the light is coming on, I would think you still have air either in the front or the rear.
Maybe even a leak.
Are the calipers on the correct side (bleeders pointing up).

Obviously 🙄. So I was going to get the bleeder tool before but tried the other method due to time. I’ll go ahead and order it and rebleed them. Is there any adjustment that a proportioning valve would need with the po installing aftermarket front discs? Would a need for new rear drums cause this? Anyone know? Thanks so much for the input already!
I assume he's talking about the brake warning light on the dash.

Try doing a firm panic stop at speed, it should reset the proportioning valve.

There is no adjustment needed, just a proper bleed. The rear shoes may need to be adjusted if they are moving too far and giving the system a condition where the differential pressure is too low on the rear circuit from the wheel cylinders moving too far.

Thanks so much for the advice. I’ll revisit and keep you guys updated! I’m going to check the rear drums and then rebleed. Pray for that firm panic stop 😁😬

Just wanted to follow-up on this since I got it all resolved. Got the jeep home and discovered a leaking rear brake cylinder. Got it changed along with all the hardware (springs) on both rear drums. Bleed the brakes without issue and it is working like new. Thanks for the advice and input!
