i got a steady drip of clear liquid dripping down from behind my crank pulley so i think it’s safe to say i need a water pump. what’s available on the aftermarket that’s reputable? i live in a very hot climate so id like to spend a little extra for as good of a pump as i can get.

I found that the water pump really doesn't have much bearing on how cool the engine runs, it's all about the radiator, fan, and air flow.

I have a classic car, and many years ago when its water pump failed I had the same thought as you, get the "best" one possible since I'm in a very hot environment. I won't go into the details of why that didn't happen, but just say I ended up getting a parts store remanufactured pump with the "crappy" stamped steel impeller. And it's been working fine for well over 10 years, keeping the engine temperature right where it should be even in the 110+ summers with the AC on in heavy traffic.

I've had no probs (yet) with a Gates.
Same here. I installed one in the Jeep 5 or 6 years ago and it's worked very well. Coolant temperature stays right around 200º even in the 110+ summer temps with the AC on in stop-n-go rush hour traffic.
