Newer cars imply you probably daily them, but an important footnote is the car's reminder is typically just based on mileage.

Warranty can fix it if they are wrong.

The wife’s is her daily I switch between cars throughout the summer. Still I think I’ve only put 300 miles on my car this year and I store it 200 miles away in the winter. The Jeep has been getting the most miles lately.

I used to think the same thing but the newer cars are factoring in a lot more than just mileage for the oil change intervals.

I have never bothered to look into what kind of sensors or information the ECM is looking at but some times there a couple thousand miles difference in when the notification pops up that it's time to change the oil. My folks' '21 Ram 1500 varies by anywhere from 500 miles to about 1500 miles between changes.

Yep, has been on Ford's since 2011.

Yes, many newer Ford vehicles factor usage into their oil change intervals via the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM) system, which tracks factors like mileage, engine operating conditions (temperature, idling time), towing usage, driving habits, and time to determine the optimal time for an oil change. For older models or those without the IOLM, a time- or mileage-based schedule is used, with severe driving conditions potentially requiring more frequent changes.
How the IOLM Works

  • Monitors Real-Time Data: The IOLM continuously calculates the remaining oil life, rather than relying solely on miles driven or time passed.
    • Engine temperatures
    • Idling time
    • Towing and heavy load conditions
    • Driving speed and patterns
    • Time since the last oil change

Today I learned something new, thanks!

Newer cars will use an oil temp sensor to monitor how fast the oil comes up to temperature as part of the calculation. I would also assume mileage, idle hours and constant driving vs stop and go.

Took the wrong vehicle rock crawling

It is high centered on my driveway 🥲

That your MR2? My Mustang drags pretty easily, like a 3/4 minus driveway with a bit too much crown.

Yeah lol the driveway is dark and lined with rocks and I backed off of it. I ordered solar stake lights so I can see in the future 🤣 low cars are fun

Did you have to winch it off the rocks? Maybe we should have winches on our low cars…

That honestly would have been useful more than just this time. And yeah I'll probably end up needing to winch it now that I dug a nice hole trying to drive it off the rock 🤣
